    One of my favourites
This is one of my favourite films. Though it is fairly long it is still one of the most enjoyable films to date. It is filled to the brim with stunning digital effects and well developed characters. Sully's story is well thought out and makes you want to keep watching. It is great at showing humans dark and corrupt side. I love the villain as he is enjoyable yet hateable in a good way. It is full of entertaining action moments which are improved by great acting and amazing CGI settings. I would highly recommend you watch this with your family as you won't regret it. It is a highly rewatchable film!

I've seen better after school specials on saving the planet.
You know it's bad when the Sonic cartons both SATAM and Adventure had a better way to telling people to save the planet and that's a SHOW!!!

The characters are so boring and so predictable I thought Michael Bay was directing it, except for Stephen Lang who is the saving grace of Fern Gully Pocahanus but with blue people. Our two main leads boring as hell with nothing interesting to add, along with Sigourney Weaver who I think was away from action films for to long causes she just acts tough not believing it. The plot is every single save the planet where humans are bad. The CGI is good though.

    OVER RATED
This was nothing more than a Western with Blue Indians and the Marines were the Cowboys, The usual plot of Stealing from the Indians and naturally trying to Justify the theft as being necessary. The special effects or cgi was great, But again the plot was Nothing not seen in any other Western to date . The fact of NOT seeing it as a Western is completely narrow minded at short sighted. I thought I was going to see something different and it wasn't. I did not or will NOT see any of the Sequels period. The subject matter of continuing the making of movies where Indigenous People are the Villians is BULL.

So much better than I remembered!
Avatar (2009) follows an ex-marine as he is deployed to the moon of Pandora on a unique mission. This movie is so impressive and definitely improves upon a rewatch. It's understandable as to why it got so much hype when it came out, it's very ahead of it's time!

The film has gorgeous visuals right from the start and is honestly one of the most visually stunning films I've ever seen. The CGI is groundbreaking, and holds up so well, even to today's standards. I really like the creature designs too, they are unique and impressive. The colour palettes are very beautiful, and I particularly like the lack of colour grading after the destruction of the Hometree, it reflects the mood well and is very stylistic. The movie does it's action sequences well, with some great camerawork and a good use of slow motion.

There's a lot of effective sound design, and a brilliant score to go alongside it. The score adds to the atmosphere and beauty of the film, it really helps immerse the audience and enhance the world-building.

The acting is very good and I deeply cared for all of the characters. The relationships between them feel real too, and the actors have a lot of natural chemistry. Sigourney Weaver gives a brilliant performance and I grew to love her character a lot, and I also adore Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri, who really puts her all into her performance.

The film sets the story up well, and is a consistently entertaining and fun watch. It's paced incredibly well with a lot of high tension moments and it's a film I find very emotional and touching, it makes me cry a lot! The movie is the perfect length and manages to be immersive and gripping all throughout.

    Honestly a Pretty Good Movie
Despite being extremely successful at the box office, Avatar always gets flak for having a poor story line. But is it that bad? I honestly don't think so.

Yes, the plot is neither original nor particularly sophisticated, but it is told well. Unlike the second film, were this kind of criticism is much more justified, each setup has its payoff each character is there for a reason and each scene has a purpose. That's definitely good enough for this kind of a movie an more than a lot of blockbusters nowadays can claim for themselves.

In addition the world building (a virtue often overlooked by critics) is top notch as are the visual effects, even a decade later. If you can, watch the extended cut that gives quite a lot more backgound on the conflict between the humans and the Na'vi.

Too long, same cliches and same belaboring scenes over and over
Honestly, I thought it was bad. Too long and repetitive. In addition there were TONS of cliche'd parts, you could see a mile away. I get that it may be an animated 3d spectacle, but honestly it was long and the same old plot over and over again. It was like "OK really??? The same thing over and over". I thought Jeepers Creepers was a bad film, but this one was equally boring and repetitive. Just so stupid with the usual "oh they made it" only to get another cliche section. It's like they forgot that the movie should have a actual decent plot. I'm all for entertainment, but this was like every boring part of several films put together. This is not good science fiction - this is the same rehash with another ending that is typical.

    Brilliantly stunning movie
I would like to start off by saying... How goddamn rich is James Cameron that he can direct movies like this and Titanic which just happens to be 2 of the most expensive movies made? Not only is he rich but he is obviously mega talented as well seeing that both those movies recieved way more money than he used on them. With that said...

Avatar was a beautiful film with an equally beautiful score with some amazing fight scenes that will baffle you. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana did decent jobs as our main characters and the plot was decent too albeit somewhat generic. But that was the good. Now for the bad.

The romance in this film was unnecessary and yes I know that, that was a important plot point for the story but honestly I just don't like romance in my movies. They're boring and personally I think a waste of time. They only work in movies like Titanic or other more drama like movies. Also the characters were just not likeable to me personally except for our mc's. The rest were just meh and I didn't even feel for any of them. These two thing were pretty much the only qualms I had with "Avatar", other than that, a brilliantly stunning movie.

    Good movie
Good Movie. Everybody acted well in the movie. Songs were worst in the movie. BGM was somewhat good in the movie. The movie was interesting and thrilling at 1st half. The movie was not interesting and thrilling at 2nd half. The climax in the movie was not good. Good Movie.

Bland -We expected a little bit more from the cinematography and editing based on Writer's intense plot; however, both areas were quite stale.

The movie itself is too dull and dragged with extremely slow paced screenplay. BGM is good .

    a Visual Masterpiece
"Avatar" is not simply a sensational entertainment, although it is that. It's a technical breakthrough. It has a flat-out Green and anti-war message. It is predestined to launch a cult. It contains such visual detailing that it would reward repeating viewings. It invents a new language, Na'vi, as "Lord of the Rings" did, although mercifully I doubt this one can be spoken by humans, even teenage humans. It creates new movie stars. It is an Event, one of those films you feel you must see to keep up with the conversation. The story, set in the year 2154, involves a mission by U. S. Armed Forces to an earth-sized moon in orbit around a massive star. This new world, Pandora, is a rich source of a mineral Earth desperately needs. Pandora represents not even a remote threat to Earth, but we nevertheless send in ex-military mercenaries to attack and conquer them. Gung-ho warriors employ machine guns and pilot armored hover ships on bombing runs. You are free to find this an allegory about contemporary politics. Cameron obviously does. At 163 minutes, the film doesn't feel too long. It contains so much. The human stories. The Na'vi stories, for the Na'vi are also developed as individuals. The complexity of the planet, which harbors a global secret. The ultimate warfare, with Jake joining the resistance against his former comrades. Small graceful details like a floating creature that looks like a cross between a blowing dandelion seed and a drifting jellyfish, and embodies goodness. Or astonishing floating cloud-islands. Cameron promised he'd unveil the next generation of 3-D in "Avatar." I'm a notorious skeptic about this process, a needless distraction from the perfect realism of movies in 2-D. Cameron's iteration is the best I've seen and more importantly, one of the most carefully-employed. The film never uses 3-D simply because it has it, and doesn't promiscuously violate the fourth wall. He also seems quite aware of 3-D's weakness for dimming the picture, and even with a film set largely in interiors and a rain forest, there's sufficient light.

    Rewatching in 2022
I have no memory of having watched Avatar again since the cinematic experience in 3D on its release and I confess that I was a little apprehensive about what I was going to rediscover after so many years and in a smaller format. The truth is that the film continues to be a very gratifying experience, even seen in our small living room.

Avatar's set-up is just as rough as I remember it (and probably the biggest reason I've avoided rewatching it so many times). It's cold, it's too tech, it's too much about "cruel men", and too mechanized and with a huge introduction of stereotyped characters. It's when we get to Pandora and, especially, when Jake meets Neytiri that we find the whole soul of the film and where it completely absorbs us. The story of a love between characters from different civilizations, a forbidden love is nothing new. We know exactly where this is going and Avatar doesn't bother to do anything new narratively. Still, all the discovery of that new world, all the evidence of Jake Sully and all the elements of a different, beautiful and magical culture leave you with your mouth open and I do not doubt that it is where - the bulk of the 2nd act, where the plot theoretically it just builds on the confidence gained by Jake - that Avatar is a huge triumph, going hand in hand with the great works of the genre in history.

In the final act - which is too long - the war is shown harshly and cruelly. Beautiful on screen, but tiring and repetitive. The film finds itself once again - as it almost always does - when it takes time to breathe and let those characters and their emotions breathe. From a visual point of view, this will never cease to be fantastic. From the narrative point of view, it's a tired story, but all the elements of a new culture allow us to get closer to their pain in the face of overly cartoonish villains. Anyway, and despite the imperfections, this is an experience that remains unique and a good opening to a strange and magical new world.
