groundzero-273-397110 - 8 June 2024 The biggest flaw with The Nun II is that the film does not build up excitement and horror very well. It's hard to say which of The Nun and The Nun II that is the best or worst. Both are okay horror movies. The biggest flaw with The Nun II is that the film does not build up excitement and horror very well. You get to see Valak (the nun/demon) from the very first scene in that church, and that was one of the best parts. After that it's just horror scene after horror scene after horror scene, with slim to none build up... The pacing is just all over the place. The acting was okey. The atmosphere was also okey.
In this movie, Valak can possess people, which made the movie less scary, because then the focus landed on those possessions instead, and you saw less of the actual demon Valak as the nun. The people that got possessed looked more like zombies, and was not as interesting. Valak is a very creepy and terrifying demon, but they don't seem to know how to use the nun properly. They show way too much way too fast, with a lot of horror cliches. Valak was perfectly used in The Conjuring 2, and only in some scenes in The Nun and The Nun II.
In the third act the movie transitions to more action with less tension and horror. We get introduced to the actual Devil as well, and not in a particularly good or terrifying way. The Devil felt like a mix of a goat and a monkey, and was not scary at all. It did not create much chaos and suffering either, and just felt very weak and stupid before it disappeared. The ending was also a bit disappointing and cliche in my opinion, and the movie indicates that there will be a third movie. I did enjoy this movie though, and got scared a couple of times (by jump scares), but I was not impressed. I hope that the third movie will be better.

The Nun II (aKa The Nun Two and The Nun: Chapter Two) is a 2023 supernatural horror film directed by Michael Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It). In 1956, Father Noiret (played by: Pascal Aubert from District 13: Ultimatum) and young Jacques (played by: Maxime Elias-Menet from A Good Doctor) perform their daily chores in their church in Tarascon, France. While investigating a disturbance, Noiret is tortured before a terrified Jacques who then flees. Four years following the events at Saint Cartha's monastery, Sister Irene (played by: Taissa Farmiga from The Final Girls, The Bling Ring, Anna, American Horror Story, The Nun, and The Mule) now serves in a convent in Italy. Maurice (played by: Jonas Bloquet from The Nun, 3 Days to Kill, and Savage) works at a boarding school in France, where he has befriended a young Irish student named Sophie (played by: Katelyn Rose Downey from The Princess) and her mother, Kate (played by: Anna Popplewell from The Chronicles of Narnia franchise). Irene is dispatched by the Cardinal to investigate a series of deaths across Europe attributed to the demon Valak (played by: Bonnie Aarons from The Nun, I Live Alone, The Bell Keeper, I Know Who Killed Me, and Silver Linings Playbook), due to her previous experience with the demon. She travels to Tarascon with Sister Debra (played by: Storm Reid from Sleight, Euphoria, and The Suicide Squad), a young novice who expresses her difficulty in accepting miracles. They are forced to fight against one of the most unholy monsters out there. Will the possession take over everything? Or Will their faith outpower this evil????
The original Nun got all kinds of mixed reviews when it was first released. I actually enjoyed it much more than I honestly thought I ever would so I was definitely very excited when this follow up was announced. I thought this sequel had some real nice moments and the main villain has so much potential to be an iconic horror character with a few more films in the future. It had a nice atmosphere to it also. Something just felt a little off with this one. It was decent but it didn't come close to the first movie at all. It kinda dragged at times. Taissa Farmiga was the best thing about this production besides the creepy Nun Valak. It was cool to see a few familiar faces return with this feature but besides that I thought the cast could have been better here. It has excellent locations, quality production design, great music, and some slick cinemtopgraphy so all of those elements helped it out. I guess I was hoping for something else but overall it was still solid. If you liked The Nun from 2018 then you should give this follow up a chance. It's available on HBO Max right now if you are curious.
ma-cortes - 5 January 2024 Terrifying Ghost story that finds an evil nun seeking vendetta and carrying out a criminal spree. Chiller full of thrills , screams , gore and eerie scenes. This scary movie produced by the successful James Wan who presents another creepy horror tale with a Nun as starring. The eighth installment of one of the most successful horror franchises - The Conjuring - is this horrifying sequel to the blockbuster. It displays relentless chiller , intrigue , shocks, hard-edged drama , plot twists , creepy images and some gore when crimes takes place. This hit 'The Nun' in which the scream queen Tessa Farmiga once again puts on the habit to kill the chilling demon Valak. Set in 1956 in Tarancon (France) four years after the demonic events of 1952, Father Noiret burns to death in the air. Valek's demon has died and Sister Irene, who now serves in a convent in Italy, must once again face this evil to return him to hell. Valak often tormenting students with her own brand of extreme religious zealotry, this nightmarish nun was deathly strict with her code of ethics. The group formed by Irene (Tessa Farmiga), Debra (Storm Reid), the teacher Kate (Anna Popplewell already grown since her adolescent prominence in The Chronicles of Narnia) confront the very thing that haunts their dreams and forever links them together in hushed silence. They battle a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun (Bonnie Aaarons) that first terrorized audiences in 'The Conjuring 2,' and 'The Nun I' as the convent becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned. The greatest evil in The Conjuring Universe. Confess your sins. Witness the Darkest Chapter in The Conjuring Universe. Pray For Forgiveness. She Doesn't Forgive.
This frightening movie is plenty of thrills , chills , high body-count and lurid images with lots of eerie scenes, blood and gore. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face-to-face with Valak, the demon nun. It is an usual horror movie where the intrigue , tension , suspense appear threatening and lurking in every room , corridors , boarding school, church and convent, including some chilling frames. The main protagonist is Tessa Farmiga (Nun I, Mula, The twilight Zone) giving a good performance as the brave nun and with the incorporation of Storm Reid (Euphoria, Missing) as the unbelieving sister Debra who helps her. On the other hand, Bonnie Aarons and Jonas Bloquet repeat in this second installment as Valak and Frenchie respectively. Special effects are pretty well but there are several scenes without much sense and the main and secondary interpretations are acceptable. Interesting premise about a heinous nun is partially wasted but it has its moments here and there.
It containg a tense and suspenseful musical score by Marco Beltrani, an expert on terror movies and dark atmosphere. As well as a somber and gloomy cinematography by cameraman Tristan Nyby. This spooky movie was efficiently directed by Michael Chaves , he has previously made a few short films , all of them limited to terror genre , being The Curse of La Llorona his film debut and known for The Curse of La Llorona (2019) , The Maiden (2016) and The Devil Made Me Do (2021) . While James Wan goes to production this time and is also co-author of the story on which the script is based together with the screenwriter Davild Leslie Johnson : The Walking Dead, Case Enfield, The Orphan. The saga Warren marriage : Patrick Wilson/Vera Farmiga is formed as follows : The Conjuring (2013) by James Wan , The Conjuring 2 (2016) by James Wan and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021) by Michael Chaves . Rating : 6/10 . Acceptable and passable sequel that will appeal to horror aficionados.
