Ali_Khunaizi - 9 June 2024 epics in an epical dance of performance What a delicious meal of epic performance by all!!
And what is baffling most is how with all the great performance by all, still you can't avoid seeing an out shining play by cristian bale!!
Still, a remarkable movie with remarkable play of art!!
I could not find one thing i didn't like about the performance of the cast, nor the costumes or sound effect or the directing work,
everything seemed to me like dancing together in harmony like they all were ment to be in the same place and together, and it could work as a magnificent on how legendary everyone participated in the movie, and we actually witnessing a spot in the time tape where great actors and actresses lived and give some of the best art in all time.
Well done 👍🏻
silverton-37959 - 31 January 2024 Disappointing I rented this on the strength of a mention that this story is centered around the Business Plot exposed by Gen. Smedley Butler. I didn't suspect that it would be an unfunny "comedy", but that's the perfect description for it.
The cast includes three purported A-List actors: Taylor Swift, Robert De Niro and Chris Rock, none of whom belong anywhere near a film about the Business Plot, which is not a "Conspiracy Theory, but was a real conspiracy to depose a president and take over a government.
De Niro is a once solid actor who has become a political activist, losing his acting talent in the process. Rock is a once great stand up comic who has never had any acting chops. Taylor Swift has never been able to act and doesn't belong in films, except those on the level of "Barbie".
Maybe it was filmed as a "comedy" just so the story could be told, but the story isn't told, only alluded to in spots. For that reason, I can't give it the benefit of the doubt.
Graham_Ivan - 30 December 2023 It's incredulous who gets the funding... really a 1 out of 10, but isn't unpleasant in the background Having come through, and well and truly left 'The Second Golden Age of Television' behind, it's still completely baffling how wish washy lame and pretty much plotless films and tv series are now getting all the funding.
While this pointless film, with an all star cast and what seems like a very generous budget, doesn't grate upon one like the dismal failures of, say Fargo Season Four, it's pretty much in the same category... which would be akin to 1980's supermarket shelf romantic fiction paperback novels. There's literally nothing original, interesting or even vaguely suspense driven about it.
It has a gentle tone about it, which prevents it from infusing an infuriating feeling of wasting one's time, but it is 99% exactly like 1990s pop-jazz elevator music.
But it is aggravating, because there is obviously even talent and money involved for it to be really good.
Who is writing this crap!?
It reeks of nepotism and young-Millenial-meets Gen-z's elites who seem Yo have zero grit/absolutely no first hand life experience amd are completely unwilling to venture out of the ever closing-in-walls of what's 'socially acceptable'.
The blame for this utter waste of money and time most likely falls on every executive and hands on producers involved, but not off the hook are the writers and directors, and even actors who choose to be involved.
But essentially, the blame is on the financial backers, be gigantic corporations like Amazon, or a mix of highly propaganda oriented media companies.
Sadly, the result is the same - utterly boring story telling.
Let's just hope that this dark age of fiction media story telling doesn't last too much longer. Sigh.
KDPeffley-2 - 11 January 2023 Weird but worth watching This movie is especially worth watching if you like Christian Bale or any of the several very talented actors that played in the film. I couldn't help but think that this was directed by Wes Anderson. The timing of the dialogue certainly impresses me that way, as well as the color schemes and the way the story is told. It was intimated at the very beginning that the movie's story was based in history, but I haven't seen anything to confirm that yet. Alternatively there are some parallels to Jan 6th 2021. Overall, I liked the film and I'd recommend it to friends who happen to like Wes Anderson or just quirky movies in general.
Izzy2727 - 7 January 2023 Deliver some messages at all costs Another wokeified crapfest that is begging to be an Oscar nominee. It's like a war, spread leftist propaganda and jump away. Really boring dialogue as all Oscar bait is. Hollywood just can't write a movie anymore.
The 2022 movie Amsterdam starring Margo Robbie and Christian Bale. The plot was confusing and lacked coherence, and the acting was subpar at best. I found myself checking the time frequently during the film, as I was unable to become invested in the story or the characters.
Additionally, the special effects were underwhelming and did not add anything to the overall viewing experience. I would not recommend Amsterdam to anyone and would give it a rating of one out of five stars. It was a complete waste of time and money.
alex-galinsky - 4 January 2023 What an unbelievable pile of ****! This movie is an insult to cinematography and even the most average intelligence...
American Pie, Clueless and even Dumb and Dumber are masterpieces compared to this pretentious, pseudo-creative, absolutely nothing to show for pile of crap.
It's unbelievable that someone agreed to spill $80M on this thing and even more amazing is how they made those actors take part in it.
Maybe this is the true conspiracy worth investigating here... it's a lot of money to waste...
And lastly, It is so nauseating and hypocritical to be taught by Hollywood billionaires that "Rich is bad! Poor is good!" but for it to be done in such a blunt way... seriously???
SimmyDontPlayDat - 1 January 2023 Beautiful and fun I'm having a hard time understanding the bad reviews. We almost didn't watch because of them, but I'm glad we did.
The plot is straight forward and simple. Two guys investigating a murder get framed for it. They then go on a hunt to figure out what's going on. It's an easy and light movie. Not much to think through.
I felt good afterwards and enjoyed the performances. There was a lot of beautiful art intertwined and I loved the balance of serious and playful.
It was good to see Margot Robbie in a role where she didn't have a harsh accent and was allowed to shine as an actress. I believed her character in this one where I'm usually pulled into my head by who she's pretending to be.
I won't go through the other actors but they all had stellar performances. Christian Bale was great. John David Washington was also wonderful.
I do find Michael Meyers' performance noteworthy even though it was a minor role. It's hard for me to see him and not expect him to break out into a voice or goofy character. I haven't seen him acting in a more serious role. And while this wasn't a *very* serious role, it was a good side to him.
Definitely worth 2 hours of your time.
julioromeu75 - 28 December 2022 Very underrated Based in an historical event between world wars, this is an absolutely underrated movie. Packed with great actors (de Niro, Christian Bale, Margot Robbie. John Washington among others), and filmed in a very David O. Russel way, this film didn't get the attention that should. Possibly cause it is a political film with very actual similarities or because it was launched in a bad timing, truth is Amsterdam was one of the biggest flops of the year. Undeservedly so. Watched the film not expecting much due the IMDb rating and the box office performance and I was surprisingly amused. Hopefully the streaming services will help gather more love for this film.
akoaytao1234 - 24 December 2022 Fine but lacking One of bigger shockers of the year. I liked Amsterdam (though its not great). I do think that it could be tighter film, the acting in some part could have been better, the pacing do take an odd turn midway and some scene is utterly bizarre but I still liked it.
I feel like most David O Russell film, its a mid film lead by (mostly) competence but unlike his peak films, no one here is exemplary or noteworthy. It works, because its enough gears for a totally mindless film to work.
PS: Taylor Swift should really try to actually learn acting. She was fine but such an awkward presence in the film lol.
yevettecastro - 19 December 2022 Ridiculously entertaining Absolutely loved this side of O'Russell. It's a cornucopia of different flavours of genres. Comedy, murder mystery, historical aspects and culture. The heartwarming friendship between the trio is hopeful and endearing. I loved the performances, especially Bale's. The cinematography, sets, and costumes were top notch. Great job at casting the characters in the film. Anya, DiNiro, Washington, and Rami Malik were an excellent choice for the film. Amazing ensemble all around. It was rollercoaster of events that kept me on the edge of my seat. These are the type of films that grab my attention and love to watch.
