Wolf

Jacob, a man who believes he is a wolf trapped in a human body, is sent to a clinic by his family where he is forced to undergo increasingly extreme forms of "curative" therapies at the hands of The Zookeeper. Dark Absurdist Humour & Important Warnings Against Repeating History
I actually really enjoyed this, although maybe not always for the intended reasons. I spent half the film distracted by the collars/leashes and the other half wondering how you'd depict identifying as a flea ;-)

Quips aside, I appreciated Wolf. Apart from the Nietzsche "abyss" quote, I didn't find it pretentious at all. The film was easy to follow, brought up important themes, and was very funny in several places. The humour is absurdist and I'm sensing that's what's coming off as pretentious to some people. It's each to their own with humour, of course.

In terms of the themes, I give the film credit too - the ideas aren't as far-fetched as some might say. The extreme behaviour of the clinic leader, for instance, is very akin to what we were doing to our "mental patients" or "sexual deviants" some decades ago. Films like this help us to remember that era in history and warn against repeating it in the future.

As long as you don't get too wrapped up in wanting "realism" (it's more of an absurdist warning for the future), Wolf is an entertaining and thought-provoking 90 minute watch. I would genuinely enjoy a sequel to see how human-animals fare in the wild, and I take my collar off to Biancheri for daring to make something so out-of-the-ordinary.

    Shocking
I always wonder what is the goal of a movie and when I watch a movie I ask myself if I will get a nice punchline or lesson out of it ... this movie is nothing like that... this movie is pure emotion. Shocking, frustrating, empathetic, funny, sad... whatever it is; I enjoyed every bit of it and would recommend it 100%. Bonus: The actors were superb 👌

This movie could be considered somewhat abstract. I found hard to find a cohesive theme throughout. I doubt that was hardly the point. I think the movie has other goals in mind; like exposing mental deseases in and very candid and personal way. It could make you feel very shocked at times.

Finally; this movie has some dystopian vibes as well. I'm sure that in a society where such aberrations are allowed to happen must have gone through some severe social changes. Watch it with an open mind.

Over Pretentious, Pseudo Intellectual But Still Good
"Wolf" (2021) is Nathalie Biancheri's debut feature film starring George MacKay and Lily-Rose Depp. It's very moody, dark and strange + I didn't quite catch what the creator wanted to say with it but still enjoyed it. The actors do not shine, but they are doing okay, and Depp is really cute as always. I give it 1 star + because it takes guts to make such a different debut full-length film and for sure it was not boring at all. At least for me.

So if you like original and chill psychological dramas, I recommend it, although it's not the best out there but it is still worth it.

    Final Score: 7/10.

    Unexpected insanity
I was having trouble at first getting into some of the long, slow scenes, but man I glad I stuck through. This insanity captured on file. The performances are insane. The duality of it all... Madness.
