Don't Worry Darling

Don't Worry Darling

Alice and Jack are lucky to be living in the idealized community of Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. But when cracks in their idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something much more sinister lurking beneath the attractive façade, Alice can’t help questioning exactly what they’re doing in Victory, and why.

    What did I watch?
I made it through an hour of this mess and I can't take it any longer. I just don't have the patience to watch a movie hoping that something, anything, will happen.

What is it supposed to be; a drama, horror, comedy, mystery, what? I have no idea. Why is it set in the 1950's.

Maybe all this is answered later in the movie, but like I said, I just don't have the patience to sit through it. Also, I always picture Chris Pine in Star Trek. I find it hard to picture him in anything else.

This movie is evidently geared to a specific type of audience, one that I am not a part of. I'll give it a 2 at best.

    Refreshing and fun
Up to date on something new and surprising in a not too often used package these days. Great acting and scenery throughout. Can remind of Pleasantville and The Truman Show when it comes its distinctive style. Cool to learn that Olivia Wilde did direct the movie. Florence Plugh and Chris Pine both do really well, but it is in fact Harry Styles who do impress me the most due to his lack of acting experience on the big screen (that said, he was great in Dunkirk as well). I would myself have preferred a longer wrap up and future telling ending of the movie, but that might just be to the fact that I did not want the story to be over that quickly.

    Needs Improvement
The film revolves around a housewife named Alice who begins to question her seemingly perfect suburban life in the 1950s.

It is revealed that Alice's reality, called Victory, is actually a simulated world.

FLorence Pugh's acting prowess in the movie Don't Worry Darling elevated Harry Styles' performance.

Yes, The movie generated significant buzz due to its star-studded cast and the involvement of Olivia Wilde as the director. It was praised for its stylish visuals, suspenseful atmosphere, and strong performances. "Don't Worry Darling" explores themes of control, identity, and societal expectations.

    Don't waste your time darling
I was curious about what all the hype was about, especially with little to no information on the plot line. This was a complete waste of time, Florence Pugh and the fashion/style are the only good things about this movie, I was annoyed afterwards that I even finished but I'm one of those people that has to finish something once I start it. I'm still wondering what the point of this movie was and how it has a rating as high as it does. You can hear through Harry Styles accent and with such a generic and pathetic plot line this makes it more frustrating to finish. I usually love Chris Line as an actor, I can't say anything bad for him except that he didn't choose wisely on accepting this role. Jack(Harry Styles character) is a selfish prick who changes their lives because he was lazy and pathetic as you come to find out way too far in the movie, they spent a lot of time on the current lives of the characters and very few time on the backstory.

    Third-rate Truman Wannabe
The only good thing about the movie is Florence Pugh's acting.

The plot didn't make ANY sense whatsoever... So, Alice is a doctor that is kidnapped in this program. We see how Jack gives her water, in the real world, through water drops (lmao). When she realizes there's something wrong in that place (since she sees the plane crash and goes to the "central office"), she gets shock therapy in the fake world (???). At the end, she escapes doing the exact same thing she did when she saw the plane crash, touching that glass. But the first time she did that, she didn't get out...

So many questions and plot holes man. How on earth would a DOCTOR of all things go missing without anyone noticing? How could people (family, friends, police??) not go looking for Alice in her house? How did she not die if she wasn't eating in the real world? What was the point of shock therapy in the fake world? Why was there a plane crash? Wtf were those earthquakes? Why did the mechanism to go out to the real world didn't work for her the first time?

Horrible horrible movie. Zero sense, boring and deeply flawed.

    An unexpected allegory
I saw in this story our eternal struggle to create a perfect life with our partner, be happy and feel loved, as the best versions of ourselves. But what if 'perfect' and 'the best' are very subjective? If the superfluous perfection has no substance, and full of hypocrisy in itself? Or if it is a substitute for the reality that is too heart-breaking to put up with?

A beautiful and memorable story. Enjoyed all of it, including the ending. The cast, the acting, story line, cinematography, costumes, and the soundtrack. Olivia Wilde did a fantastic job as the director and the producer. Florence Pugh was a known gem, but Harry Styles I discovered for myself.

Don't judge it by the trailer
I enjoyed this movie much more than expected. The trailer and the media blitz are misleading.

Personally I expected the movie to be a critique of the idealized notion of the 50s and to be more of a drama. I also expected it to be overly feministic and to capitalize on the MeToo movement. It kinda does all of that but these are just themes in the movie, not THE movie. In the ends it's a solid dystopian thriller.

Florence Pugh does a fantastic job at leading the movie. Chris Pine is underrated in it, he deserves more recognition for this role. I haven't made my mind about Harry Styles though. He does better than expected but definitely falls short playing alongside Pugh.

Overall I'd recommend the movie if you're into thrillers and/or dystopias.

Excellent Directing and acting - very weak script esp ending
I went into this movie without looking at any of the reviews or issues surrounding it as I really do like Olivia Wilde as an actress so I was very curious about her directing this film - and I also loved the cast of actors also.

I was surprisingly shocked at how good the directing is and the cinematography is phenomenal. The surreal scenes were handled beautifully and Florence Pugh carries the entire film and deserves an Oscar. The supporting cast did an excellent job and I think Harry Styles did a decent job and do not understand the criticism. The music definitely has a feel like "get out", and yet it played quite well for the majority of the movie and kept my attention.

Overall it was a good thriller with only a minor complaint that the ending is a bit short and a predictable letdown - and it could've been handled a different way so the biggest flaw is a weak script that lacks depth but it's still an enjoyable, entertaining movie. The writer could have extended the final ending with more explanation and exploration besides the simple stepford wives analogy so I do understand why so many negative comments but there is some latitude that there is a big difference between a poorly directed/acted film versus a well directed film that has a poor ending that was too quick and shallow.

So the dismount was a bit shaky - big deal. The ride was pretty phenomenal and kudos to Olivia Wilde for making such a cool entertaining film. Looking forward to the next one she directs.

A solid 6 and if a better script it could have been a 8/9.

A bit like a long episode of Black mirror
Weird but good concept of the story, need to cut some scenes then explain better of some scenes. It's a futuristic story very much like an episode of Black Mirror. Unfortunately not as good as it is. I definitely mention a good performance by Florence Pugh in the movie. Other casts are a bit boring and not really exciting. Also I don't like ending at all, very disappointing, could make it much better.

Trying to make it twisted too hard but failed somewhat. Can enjoy watching a good time of 50's, fashion and cars, TV, telephone, music etc. That is a very good cinematography of the good old days.

Beautiful movie, Great acting, rushed reveal/ending
As a frequent visitor to the Palm Springs area and lover of 50s style, music, culture and overall aesthetics, watching the film was beautiful, as our the actors in it.

If you e read any review, you know Florence Pugh did an amazing job. I also thing Wilde, Styles, Pine, Kroll, Chan and the rest of the ensemble cast were pretty darn spot on.

Does it give stepford wives vibes- yes, a darker Truman show, I get the comparisons, but I also think it can stand on its own.

Without spoilers, as things unravel and we start to get glimpses of what's really going on... there isn't enough. I don't need everything spelled out for me, I wouldn't enjoy that either, but maybe a few smaller hints or realizations to get more understanding on your own until bang bam boom action and over.

People aren't impressed by Wilde's sophomore directing outing, but I thought it was very good. I'm not quite sure what more people think others could do. My only issues were with timing and completion of the script , which was good in and of itself.

I will say the movie will be one to remember more for the aesthetics and Pugh's performance than the impact of the "psychological thriller" but it's worth watching for sure.

8 may be a tad high for a film that received so much hype (for the movie not just the tabloid exploits surrounding it), but I added a star or 2 for the setting and costumes.
