    Offensive
So recorded this off sky movies earlier today thinking it might be a fun horror as I'd seen Totally Killer last night and fancied something similar tonight.

Sadly this is terrible. Pure cringe from start to 45 minutes, which is how long I watched this for. It is simply not funny and just totally offensive.

This protraies white people as really bad without and solid justification. Ironically it also portaries the group as friends who are all black in negative stereotypes such as drug taking, alcohol, cheating on their partners.

I can't really understand why anyone would want to see this. There are miles better comedies and horror movies out there.

This deserves nothing more than a 1 star.

    Decent crew flick
"The Blackening" is what I like to call a crew flick. One of those movies you can watch with some of your friends or at the theater and get more entertainment out of it then you might if you watch it alone as if it were a serious film lol. Performances were all decent, nothing great but it's not being called for in a film like this anyway. Actors know what they're doing and dialogue feels natural. Direction and production value solid. Script is nothing too special. Nothing particularly fresh about the ideas being presented and the twist ending doesn't work as well as the filmmakers seemed to believe it should have. Overall, an entertaining enough flick to have a couple chuckles with but probably won't warrant multiple viewings for most.

Not much horror, not much comedy
Unfortunately was lacking in both departments... starts off very promising but unfortunately doesn't deliver in horror or comedy aspect. Some chuckles here and there. But the worst part is that the killer (who actually has a pretty scary mask etc) ends up being not scary at all, and the kills are minimal. As in barely any characters die. There's maybe 3 kills? 2 of which happen at the very start.... It was as if they were scared to kill off their characters. The whole premise of racism / white supremacy etc would've hit home so much harder had they actually been killing off our beloved black characters. And the defeat of the killer at the end been so much more satisfying.

All in all- both comedy & horror blue balls with this one. Wasted potential.
