soccerwind - 5 April 2024 This one rocks!! Love the pace of this story of 3 high school misfits and one who fantasizes over winning "Battle of the Bands". Tones of School of Rock a little, but up to date and heavy metal, and this movie, on its own merits, really does rock.
Solid performances by the three stars as well as the supporting cast. As I watched them perform in the climatic live performance, it did remind me of the Jack Black classic. And the live song does not disappoint.
I certainly wondered if the several scenes where individuals play instruments, including in band. Do they really play, and sing? Without actually knowing, I totally think they did and an incredible fashion.

Standard teen drama/comedy, feel-good flick, about high school friends who form a metal band and enter the Battle of the Bands competition. Friendship, first love, boyish fantasies, and adolescent outbursts, a 'coming-of-age' story, typical of a Netflix production. Nothing new and original, nothing spectacular, but quite cute and watchable. An hour and a half just flew by.
The main asset of the film is a good cross-section of metal classics, nicely blended with the current events in the film. When "Whiplash" (Metallica) started, I got goosebumps. And there are also Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Mastodon, Motorhead, Pantera, as well as cameo appearances by Scott Ian (Anthrax), Tom Morrello (RATM), Kirk Hammett (Metallica) and Rob Halford (Judas Priest) and the culmination of the story with "Machinery of Torment," which Tom Morello wrote for the film.
7/10.
Pjtaylor-96-138044 - 30 August 2022 Drummer? I hardly know her. 'Metal Lords (2022)' plays out like a Disney channel original movie with a lot more C-bombs. This generic coming-of-age story centres around a couple of misfits who form a so-called post-death metal band and aim to take their school by storm at the kind of battle of the bands concert I'm sure never actually occurs in real life. It's pretty much exactly what you expect it to be, hitting all the beats of a high school comedy that aims to tackle themes such as friendship, finding your passion and proving yourself. The cast of stock characters do what's required of them and the narrative moves along at a decent pace. Most of the movie is just fine, the sort of forgettable fluff that doesn't inspire a strong reaction. The occasional moment of comedy is successful enough to make you smile, and the flick culminates in a predictable but effective finale that rounds things off relatively nicely. Its metal aesthetic is more of a coat of paint than a deep-rooted identity, but fans of the subject will likely get a kick out of some of the stuff seen and heard here. It's decent enough for what it is and will likely play a lot better to those who haven't seen a thousand of these movies before. It's a solid effort overall, even if it's perhaps the opposite of a game changer.
julianabrown-30367 - 27 July 2022 Brought memories It was a good movie that brought me back to my high-school years when I started to listen Heavy Metal. It's an entertaining story and of course the best part is to listen all the songs of some of the Metal Gods!
