    Nail biting rescue movie
Ron Howard is an american director. The movie started off with Thai kids talking in Thai language playing soccer. The movie felt like a Thai movie, and that brought in a lot of credence.

The rescue efforts felt reasonably authentic. Quite a lot of pain has gone into filming the efforts in a realistic manner.

A very ambient movie. You always feel placed in the environment - whether it is within the cave, whether it is the bustling crowd. Good surround sound of rains and crowds and the water in the caves.

The angst that a rescuer feels when he is faced with situations where he almost lost the kid he was trying to rescue has been captured accurately. You feel the shudder, and not a lot of screen time. Just a poignant capture.

More than the movie, it is the tale of the selfless sacrifices, and how everyone came together that wins your heart. Even while the story of the sleeping princess' anger emerges on one side, very practical steps are taken to meet the challenge. In fact, the solution adopted is absolutely brilliant.

You would find yourself drawing parallels to the rescue efforts against Kerala floods that had occured around the same time period.

It is an excellent movie. A very challenging movie to make and very well done.

    Very one sided
The whole movie is solely based on the UK team's ego. Where is the mention of Ben Reymenants and Maksym Polejaka's contribution in actually navigating and installing the guide ropes? Where is the the heart and soul of ALL THE VOLUNTEERS? The contribution by the US Military, the team of international divers? Where is Richard Harris' partner Craig Challen who was not featured yet he was one of Australian of the year for his effort in the rescue. Too many inaccuracies and total bias toward the 2 English divers. Fails to capture the camaraderie of an all the international and local volunteers who contributed greatly to this miraculous rescue. A crucial and emotive part was sadly neglected, that being the volunteer Thai pump extraction volunteer who drove 900km to deliver giant water pumps not available anywhere and crucial to lowering the water levels and enabling the successful rescue. Watch instead the Netflix series Thai Cave Rescue. Also watch 13 Lost on YouTube and Channel News Asia, Against The Elements. These are more accurate and more emotive and captures the true spirit and emotions of what actually happened.

This movie was a huge disservice and disappointment If you are going to watch it, watch it before you see the recommendations suggested. This movie is so disjointed and not cohesive. So many unexplained characters and inaccuracies. This is based solely on one man's account, his story. So it seriously lacks overall information and facts. I lost interest after the first 1/3 hour. Not enough research was done. It lacks the heart and feel of the series, Thai Cave Rescue. You feel all sorts of emotions in that series.

This was purely a British ego feeding fest. To make them look like the heroes. When in fact their only claim to fame was laying the last bit of rope that Ben and Maksym weren't able to complete because they ran out of oxygen. So they had to return and John and Rick, who nearly gave up 5 days earlier, laid the remaining line past Pattaya beach which led them to smell where the Wild Boars were.

Netflix Thai Cave Rescue brought me to tears. This movie made me frustrated and angry at all the inaccuracies. It was so one sided in favour solely for the Brits.

    Hollywood is listening
Of course I heard of this story during the time it was all over the news back in 2018, but I didn't realize how outstanding and heart warming the details actually were until I came across the documentary named "The Rescue" that depicts the intricacies and stories of all involved on this operation.

I was absolutely amazed and actually emotional through most of the documentary, something that's not that common when I watch movies or TV shows these days, a proof of what true humanity actually is and the insane amount of courage and peace of mind those kids were able to display with the help of their coach, out of this world.

I then decided to give this movie a chance, already fully aware of the story through the documentary I wanted to have the opportunity to see how Hollywood was going to adapt the story based on all the details already shared through the documentary.

I have to be honest, they really nailed this one! I believe this is a respectful accurate adaptation probably one of the best I've seen as a movie. Movies based on true events tend to highly dramatize events and specific situations but this felt like a very realistic and on point re-telling of that unthinkable rescue. The locations, the editing, the camera work, the actors (Viggo amazing as always) everything just really spot on, and probably the most important aspect of all that goes against the trend of most Hollywood movies these days and I never tire to criticize, they depicted a story that take place in another country where most of the involved are Thai native and they were bold enough to not only hire Thai actors but also to have a big portion of the movie spoken in Thai.

I cannot tell you the amount of frustration I have watching American productions telling stories from other countries and they decide to just keep it in English sometimes just making a weird and fake accent, it loses its essence entirely, my respect to Ron Howard to have the courage to make this, I feel this might be one of the snubs for the Academy Awards this year.

good as I have been told
I had a heads up that this was a very good film. Great for adults. L believe parents would also love to include any age for this movie. That is not saying this is a mild film. It is very intense and aimed at adults. But can be seen by most any age. Fairly long running time but moves quickly. The last hour flies. It is a true story. Though in real life it is said it was even more dangerous than shown. Many dramatic scenes. All cast is portrayed true and fairly. Some of the incidents were initially kept from the public in real life. But the film includes the real life attempts to save the people. Quite bizarre at time but true. Ron Howard has made his best film in my opinion with 13 Lives. Glad it was recommended.

    THIRTEEN LIVES - 3/10
Yeah... it's a no from me. The best way I can really describe this film is to say that it really attempts to be dramatic and serious without actually being dramatic and serious. The actual story of the rescue is an actually scary and captivating story but the way Ron Howard and the rest of the people behind this film use to he music and editing to portray the story makes it seem not as grand and with a lesser worldwide effect. The score is so unmemorable and the cinematography is so basic and uninteresting. The only time where I really paid notice to the cinematography and thought that it was okay was during some of the cave-diving scenes - that's it. For the entirety of the rest of the film it was bleak and unimpressive. And as for the screenplay, it doesn't aid the film in feeling more special and evoking more emotion. In places where you think a character would have a crucial scene for their development, it is just minimised so much that I would consider it a stretch to say that there is any character development in this film at all. I can understand sticking to the original, real-life story, but the difference between a film like Braveheart and how that film created false character development, is that the divers actually developed as people during the rescue. Ron Howard or whoever wrote the script had the blueprint and story and chucked it away for cool sets and interesting cave diving scenes. And, look, I'll be the last to say it, the cave-diving scenes are one of the more redeeming things about this film overall. They do manage to do there job in immersing me in the moment. Key word there - 'moment'. The second the dialogue begins again, we're right back to the boring, bland and beyond bleak story. 3/10.

Very little to say... besides SEE IT!
My heart was firmly lodged in my throat for the last hour and a half of Thirteen Lives. Nobody does true-story heroism like Ron Howard, and the people behind the true story of this film were just that... TRUE HEROES!!!

Though Howard fictionalizes his subjects, and does not pretend to make documentaries, he does accurately depict the feeling and the major points of his subjects in this one! It almost feels like a beautiful re-enactment. In all honesty it feels like you are actually there.

Vigo and Colin absolutely killed it. What excellent acting! They each deserve an Oscar for this. And I hope they get it this year!

Those who have run into my reviews may note that this is one of my shortest. Please understand that I really don't think there's much to say about this simple, beautiful and very human story, besides - see it!
