dashxtkingddg - 11 May 2024 A spit in the face of the original series fanbase. Spoiler ahead) Let's all agree this ending sucks Toby becoming the new trollhunter is the most unnatural choice in the whole series.
What, made Jim such a great trollhunter was not his skills nor his speed or wisdom, it was his heart and will to overcome challenges despite his fear.
Jim starts of as a realitvely normal student he has one best friend whom he spends most of his time with, he has a crush on a girl named Claire, he's bullied and his father was absent growing up.
This is the typical hero formula, and there's multiple examples of this captain america, Batman, superman jon snow, luke skywalker, etcetera and hundreds of more examples
What all of these characters have in common is they start in a vulnerable position, often the character is bullied lacks confidence, lacks confidence in himself nevertheless there is lack of belonging and identity either caused by trauma or conflict within them or something that propels them forward, this causes the character to want to prove themselves often they are given that what they seek, Bruce wayne gives himself the title of batman and is later represented with conflict whitch he has to overcome.
Some characters doubt themselves but that is were they grow there is often a lesson to be learned from this aswell and they often have to make sacrifices.
All of this makes for a compelling story, and especially when it comes to trollhunters because like many I grew up with this series as a kid, and so I been able to grown with the series and characters especially jim who fits in perfectly in a hero's story.
Jim is bullied he is in love with a girl he longs for something new, he is confronted by his bully he grows as a character and learns a lesson, he gains the confidence to start talking to his crush, he is confronted with more conflict he makes sacrifices, learns a lesson, that what you want isn't necessarily good or what is needed, so he has to make sacrifices for the greater good.
Toby literally does none of that, he is a sidekick to Jim, comic relief, he's not that talented warrior, he's not fast, he hasn't got the talent that makes jim a hero, and choosing to throw away all the progress to make Toby the Trollhunter is spitting in the faces of all the fans of the original series, all that character development all that sacrifice and splendid writing flushed down the toilet, not to mention the movie was so F random they try to cram in bunch of characters in the time of only 1 hour and 40 minutes, the characters are barely fleshed out, the villains are empty without any real reasons or justifications for what they're doing, all the deaths feel unnecessary, and the ending just makes the whole movie feels unnecessary, altogether the movie feels rushed and written with made up logic as they progressed from the original series.
And I forgot to mention the final step of a hero acceptance, when toby died that should have been it, he dies Jim and his friends attend his funeral he moves on he starts a family with Claire, The rest of the characters find their purpose and rebuild. The end.
That makes for a far better ending. Honestly this just feels like A Game of thrones all over again, Rushed, badly written, hollow and questionable characters and choices, flawed logic.
1/10. I dont recommend since it will ruin the series for you.
bellapizza-78647 - 19 April 2023 "I'm gonna burn it." As said by Blinky It was an OK movie with a forced ending with TOO MANY DEATHS. FIRST WE HAVE STRICKELER THEN WE HAVE NARI AND TO MANY OTHERS. It was good at the beginning. I thhought that he would go back in time like maybe a couple days beforehand to warn everyone but SERIOUSLY! The ending didn't make any sense to me like we already established that Jim is supposed to be the trollhunter cause of the episode where Draal becomes the trollhunter and it just doesn't make any sense. And all of the characters character development just turned to stone. Pun intended. What I would have done is that instead of resetting the timeline I would have all of the heros survive and the after math would be finding a device to eraze the minds of the entire world exclude the people who already knew about trolls and magic beforehand.
EvanKevelson - 1 March 2022 I was a fan of Arcadia.... Tolls (original series), good and evil wizards (troll hunters Wizards), and Extra Terrestrial beings (3 Below) and a former first and last human teenage troll hunter, combine like milk and mustard in this film which was so chaotic and foolish that twenty minutes in I said "Enough...." And told my children that they had their allotted TV time but not for this.
And the world is confused enough that children don't need pregnant adolescent males from an Extra Terrestrial female kissing him seven times... or the dedicated Nunez Shadow sorceress dedication to "Jim" regardless of Jim's anatomy, or Jim's mother being engaged not only to a fictitious creature who prefers troll/Satan form but has been forgiven for his megalomaniac desires bent on ruling the world with changelings.
There's teaching tolerance normally, and abnormally and without parental explanation of symbolism children from 5-10 don't have that abstract level of thought. It's pretty hedonistic and beyond liberal.
Sr33 - 31 October 2021 Why the ending?! Wish you could just change the ending from giving Toby the amulet to going back to the beginning scene of the movie to have Aargh pull the lever. Why would you give it to Toby?! If you watched the original series you know Toby is far too clumsy and unintelligent, he lacks valour and he's scared. He only changed as time went by and to support Jim. The amulet chose Jim for a reason and we witness why in that series itself. U ruined it all.
The rest of the movie wasnt good either, for instance, Strickler's new voice, color and death. His death would've been better if he blew up near Skrael's face and not the hind leg of the Titan.
Steve's pregnancy was only entertaining for a second. Not even how he got there.
There were times it looked like u tore pages off DC/Marvel movies to make yours. Dont really know how I feel about it, we've seen a Green Lantern moment in original series too.
Namura's death was painful but again, in the ending time travel, change Toby's arrogance, overconfident self to Aargh pulling the lever and problem solved. His character caused this chaos of a movie and u give him the amulet?!
Especially the ending ruined the whole franchise. Im just gonna pretend this movie never happened.
