    Come on Carey
Working my way through Christmas cheesefests I really wanted to enjoy this as I'm Scottish and love a castle but couldn't make it past Elwes's appalling "Scottish" accent. It makes Scotty from Star Trek or Groundskeeper Willie from The Simpsons sound authentic. I could almost forgive an American actor but Carey Elwes is English. Surely they learn this stuff at RADA or whatever drama school he went to?

I'd like to think he was doing a decent job but the Americans didn't think he was Scottish enough, so they wanted him to "teuchter it up" a bit.

Oh Carey, you can do so much better than this. .

I love it, so sue me
Yes, it contains all the Hallmark Christmas movie clichés. Yes, it's an improbable fairy tale. Yes, the demographic of this particular remote Aberdeenshire village is ludicrously diverse and yes, Brooke Shields is impossibly tall in flats.

But I still love it. Maybe because of the location, it manages to be a Christmas movie that's the-same-but-different. It looks great. The humour is just the right side of naff and the charm just the right side of cheesy. The leads are enormously appealing and, for once, look like they might have actually lived a life. It's cheery and Christmassy and upbeat, what's not to like?

So, yeah, it's not 'A Wonderful Life' or one of the old Christmas classics - but all the same, I personally plan to make it a staple of my future Christmas viewing from now on.

    Restarting in Scotland
A writer makes some poor decisions regarding her make lead post-divorce so she heads to Scotland for some R&R. She reconnects with her dad's heritage at the Dun Dunbar Castle and finds love along the way.

I personally liked this movie. I think it was one of the best Christmas movies I've ever watched. There are certainly much worse out there! The acting was good and the scenery was beautiful. My only major quip is the Drew Berrymore Show segments that bookend the movie. They cheapen Sophie's character quite a bit. It was enjoyable to watch a more sophisticated couple rather than the 20 somethings that usually populate the holiday fare.

    Its a "Christmas movie" haters!
A Christmas movie with "seasoned" lead actor and actress. "Seasoned" in that the stars give away my age, lol. So of course I enjoyed it, I grew up watching them. For me it was a Christmas movie with a dab of Scotland romantic charm AND stars I grew up with which made it more enjoyable than a regular Christmas movie in that I'm not familiar with the lead actors. And "Hamish," stole a few of the scenes, I enjoyed him too. So, the many low ratings? I guess people expected something else than Christmas movie! Although I do expect the other women my age enjoyed it, just to see the leads! Enjoy.
