brentjohnson-43135 - 27 June 2024 Do not thank god for people like Nicolas Winton. This is the story of a man who felt compelled by his own sense of human empathy to devote himself to the cause of saving hundreds of refugee children from almost certain death by pushing through British governmental bureaucracy, galvanizing the support of the citizenry, and prompting the media to get involved and to illuminate the cause that had become his life's mission.
This is a great story about a great man who believed in our common humanity; a story told through the experience and effort of man who was agnostic at the time of the events and dismissive of religion in general. By all accounts, he should be given credit for his own hard work.
The top featured review for this title, however, first thanks god for Nicolas Winton, then in the closing line attributes evil deeds to people's nature and credits a deity for the good work that was done, effectively making Mr. Winton and the people who did that work merely instruments of a 'greater hand' and imbuing acts of evil committed as 'humans just being humans'.
If I had had the opportunity to meet the man before his passing, I hope that I would have had the decency to thank him, and not someone else, for his empathy, his character, and his strength of will that saved so many lives.
joaotrab - 26 April 2024 Amazing story and Anthony Hopkins performance A story that needed to be told and Anthony Hopkins delivers an outstanding performance. Common people making extraordinary acts of kindness. Great scenography, soundtrack, and generation of some tense moments. That same feeling that more could have been done when you did your best like you get from Schindler's List. Never a dull moment and interesting to give the right relevance to the different people involved, instead of just focus one man's job. A movie that is so well filmed that could be shown to young generations to understand this dark part of human history, without including any gruesome scenes. Totally recommend.
eliara371 - 11 April 2024 An important story This was important to make, a story that should not be forgotten and now will be easier to remember. We had many spleandid famous actors, especially the lead. The production was well done. I was moved. But I wish they showed and made a bigger note of what happened to the children which did not get to go with the last train. I understood that they did not show that, because this movie was about showing how a man made a difference, how people can do a difference. An success story. But I don't feel like children from the newer and coming generations will truley understand what happened to those children that did not get to escape.
