I ahte this film too many villains with British accents as usual
Not single good character with a British accent wtf thrse directors are obsessed with making the good guys American and the bad guys British. Too many dramatic scenes ew I don't why that guy woman can't just friends instead of love birds. I get that British accent fits for the villain however it's overdone should of just kept american villain. Like less British people as bad guys and more British people as good guys its not so hard also cuz I'm British and I don't wanna see villains with my accent all the damn time bloody hell. And I thought this movie was supposed to be comedy I didn't find a single thing funny. The fact that this movie has no begging middle or end.

It is a silly comedy, and I love it
The film sets the tone straight away: it is ridiculous and full of unrealistic situations happening in unrealistic ways. It lowers expectations immediately, but at the same the film is honest and doesn't pretend to be something it is not: it's not a historical film, not a serious drama, and it does not have much philosophy (maybe a tiny bit). It is an honest c o m e d y, something to laugh at while sipping a wine alone or with friends, and it leaves a positive aftertaste.

The film has a vibe of similar comedies from early 2000s, it even felt somehow like an older film, made in the new contemporary setting.

The conversations between characters are enjoyably funny, and I thought that whoever wrote them was good.

While I had no expectations, the film pleasantly surprised me, and actually made me laugh.

Also, Sandra Bullock and Da'Vine Joy Randolph are gorgeous.

    Entertainment at its best!
Loved it! This is a great movie for the Gen x and the early Millennial generation. It's fun, well acted with an exciting storyline and some tongue in cheek moments.

It reminds me of movies made before the critics demanded a social justice message, back when entertainment was just entertainment.

I loved the cast, Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum worked so well together. They were sexy, intelligent, funny, and it really felt like there was chemistry between them.

The action scenes were fun, yet suited a younger audience. The ending was gripping, fulfilling and had a lovely romantic overtone.

I don't understand why this seems to have been rated so low. Yeah, it doesn't have an LGBT element, yeah, it doesn't address real life struggles, but... it doesn't have to.

Both sexes are held in high regard, both male and female have equally heroic parts to play. In my eyes, this movie was just as good as Romancing the Stone or Indiana Jones.

I would have given this 8/10 but I'm giving it 10/10 because I truly believe this movie has been hard done by by the critics... you don't get to the top 10 Netflix list unless you're popular with the public, and what's the point of a critics score unless it's to mirror what the public wants.

The ENTIRE point of a critic, is to give the public a leading edge on what's good... but if the critics are out of touch with what the public want, perhaps it's time we bin them as the gods who choose what should go onto the pedestals of greatness.

    Funny and unpretentious
The Lost City was much better than I thought. It was very much in the nature of the Cary Grant romcoms of the sixties. All of the actors had screen presence, even the secondary characters.

The story is very formulaic, but that adds to the fun. Channing Tatum is excellent as a male model who poses for the covers of romantic adventure books, and who ends up out of his depth when it gets real. Full marks to Brad Pitt for sending up himself.

Sandra Bullock is a similar person as in her other films. And that is fine. Daniel Radcliffe washing channelling Alan Rickman as English villain.

OK, so the corn was waist deep, but there was no pretence. It was good, light entertainment.

    Sweeter After Difficulty? Nah
I had high hopes for this film conjuring memorable images of the successful Indiana Jones movies. Boy, was I wrong. It tries to be both a funny movie and an action movie. It doesn't do well in both departments.

Thanks to Brad Pitt for the well-executed action sequences and the dry humor. But Da'Vine Joy Randolph tries to be hilarious but she comes off as campy bordering on inane. The same could be said of Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum's dialogue.

The word that Loretta Page (Bullock's character) uses is schlock. I hate to think of the movie in that way but maybe it is.

It's a regrettable waste of well-known and talented actors. I would like to say "sweeter after difficulty" but the movie is not this.

The saving factor is the beautiful island scenery. It is probably an island in the Atlantic perhaps somewhere off the coast of Ecuador. Could it be Isla de la Plata or Isla Lobos de Terra?

Easy movie, still not as funny as expected
It is a pity that such actors make such movies or are invited to such movies- too easy and almost just for the show or just to be distributed in any movie. And a pity that nowadays not even a comedy raises to expectations as to laugh at least half of the time from the movie.

Yes, the plot is funny but in the same time naive - the writer is kidnapped and no one wants to find her; her manager flies by herself to the remote island, finds some random people to help her and, somehow, appears on a boat where the writer and her friend are escaping, just in time to save them. I just wished that this is not another money maker but a bit more.

    Not Good
Terrible, obvious storyline. Cut-out Sandra Bullock character. Annoying support characters. Waste of good talent. Goodness knows why so many people like this (low expectations? Dumbing down?)

There is nothing new here. Nothing that hasn't been done before, and better. I can only assume that the stars were well paid, as it could not have been the script and 2D characters that enticed them.

It tries far too hard to be funny and quirky and fails miserably. There is the odd chucklesome line, but most of it falls way short of the mark.

I gave up after less than 30 minutes. I think I may have smiled or giggled twice in that time. Avoid.

    Awful.
