raben-81146 - 6 January 2024 Bucks wasted New year movie releases rarely do well, and that is including the bad trilogy Transformania, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin and the Ice Age the final sequel from 2022 that made this franchise extinct. Here Crash and Eddie they visit the lost valley again that is filled with dinosaurs, as an tyrant dinosaur he rules it. Crash, Eddie and their friends are up against the army of dinosaurs as Crash and Eddie says goodbye to their family. The animation is a little improvement, but it is like having and PS4 console game that will look dated when the latest PS5 games shows their dynamics. Scrat is not here, but at least Disney+ is having his short antics to stream.
dfreyberg_rocks - 7 October 2022 Nope If it doesn't contain the original cast everyone grew up, knows and loves, it's not worth it by a long shot.
Aside from the painstakingly horrible voices that don't belong to the characters, the animation is sloppy, compared to the past movies in the franchise. The story is lame, with no real endgame; it's like a 10-year-old wrote the script. It's missing the key ingredient of all the other movies - a heart-warming connection to both the characters and the story. I personally wouldn't recommend watching this garbage, and I don't count it as part of the franchise. It's a huge let down that never should have been given the A-OK.
jteacordle - 23 July 2022 Sucked! Just different characters killed it! This new setup doesn't have the same chemistry and you can tell in the first few minutes. Do not recommend! When you have a series meeting the same characters!
nataliabatsko - 31 May 2022 I feel like I want to crash you like a grape! The ice age franchise already had 5 movies before Disney bought the entire 20th century Fox company in 2019. Sadly, 2 years later, the studio responsible for making the films Blue Sky shutdown for lots of reasons. And Disney decided to keep making movies with the prehistoric animals, starting with a Buck wild spinoff that I'll talk about today. Originally meant to be a tv series, it somehow turned into a movie. I don't know how the plans got changed, but apparently, this is the sixth ice age film. Now I'll move on to the plot.
Crash and Eddie decided to become independent and got themselves lost in the dino world, where they meet Buck and now all 3 of them have to stop Orson from banishing mammals. Sadly, it was very generic. It wasn't engaging and felt mostly boring. You suppose that a movie called "Adventures of Buck Wild" will have lot's of action scenes. Well, there are some, and they were ok. At least they were better than the humour and that was actually gross and unfunny. I hated when characters would have sudden closeups and talk about boring things. I did laugh a couple of times, like when Manny thought that Sid was super annoying, he wanted to squash the sloth like a grape.
The cast is really forgettable. I didn't hate anyone, but I didn't like anyone either. Buck is basically the shell version of himself from the third and fifth films. He still has an adventurous and crazy personality, but he still lacks proper development. What's weird is that the movie isn't even about him. For some reason, it's about the possum brothers Crash and Eddie. I found that to be misleading, since fans believe that this is a Buck wild movie, not a Crash and Eddie one. These two weren't interesting. I just couldn't care for them, and sometimes they were slightly annoying. Orson was basically the braniac villain that wants mammals to go extinct. He tries too hard to be like Dave from another spinoff movie Penguins of Madagascar, but lacks any charm that the octopus had in that film. Besides, we never learn why exactly he wants to rule the world, which makes the script to be confusing. The last main character of the film is Zee, one of Buck's teammates. She is meant to be the smart brave zorilla (at least, how she says so) that used to argue with the titular character throughout the movie, but as time progresses, they slowly befriend each other. She seems to be best character of the bunch. Because of her attitude and relationship with Buck. Sadly, the main trio and Ellie were pretty much pointless, and they were only here because they were in the first 3 films. Unfortunately, most characters got missing, like most characters from 4 and 5 and for some reason Scrat. I actually got upset when I found out that everybody's favorite sabertooth squirrel was absent from it. Luckily, I added Scrat tales shorts to the mix and surprisingly, they fit well into the movie. They were honestly the best scenes of the film, despite the fact that they were always meant to be a separated project from the start. I'd like to say briefly that they had the best humour with Scrat and his son's wacky moments, but I actually made a separate review on these shorts, so there's no reason to talk about them here.
As for the animation, it was terrible. For some reason, it looked worse than the first one 20 years prior. I get that happened because of the budget and the main studio being shutdown, but it felt so rushed. The backgrounds mostly look stiff, the animals look like models that are from a PS2 or Gamecube game and the action scenes, despite looking fine, still don't look as great as the ones from prequels. The voice acting is very mixed. I actually liked the female acting from Zee and Ellie. Both sounded great. But the male actors sound mostly bored, especially Buck, whose role was reprised by Simon Pegg. The rest were replaced due to low budget. I especially hated Sid's voice which actually angered me. It was so bad, that it makes Joel Mchale as Elliot from Open season 2 sound actually good. I wanted Manny to actually push Sid away. I'd also like to mention the sounds. The soundtrack sounded good, but it did reuse some tracks from before. But the sound effects sounded like they came from a royalty free website or a decade old flash game.
Is this the worst ice age film? Yes! Is this a terrible film in general? No! It was just an average kids film that had a very lame plot with juvenile and gross humour, boring characters and bad animation. But at least I liked Zee, the soundtrack and some action scenes. My best advice is to just ignore this film completely. Since most ice age fans would be most likely to be disappointed. The only exception that I'll make is if you want to binge all ice age films with no exception. But even with that, don't put your expectations too high and I'd probably recommend you to watch this film with Scrat tales shorts, at least that way, you would be less dissapointed. I expected this film to be way worse, but I'm glad that it turned out to be just average.
One last thing that I'd like to mention is that I feel very bad for the ugly pineapple wife from Dawn of dinosaurs, since Buck cheated on her with Zee. What a shame for her!
