aydensfc - 3 May 2024 I Would 100% Recommend "It"! "It" (2017), directed by Andy Muschietti, is a modern adaptation of Stephen King's classic novel. The film offers a fresh and chilling take on the iconic story, which follows a group of misfit kids in the creepy town of Derry back in the 1980s. The group of kids, which is known as the "Losers' Club" must figure out the mystery of some evil presence which is haunting the town of Derry and causing kids to go missing.
The Club features some star young actors, including Finn Wolfhard as Richie Tozier and Jaeden Martell as Bill Denbrough. These two actors played their roles wonderfully and were able to perfectly embody the terror and grit which was required for the part. Another amazing performance was delivered by Bill Skarsgard. His acting perfectly captured the twisted character of Pennywise. From his menacing grin to his haunting, distorted movements, he truly captures the essence of pure evil and horror. His mere presence haunts the children of Derry, and he creates an atmosphere of dread and fear every time he is shown in scene. Bill manages to pay homage to the original Pennywise, Tim Curry, with his performance, all the while bringing his own fresh take on the villain.
To add to the wonderful performances from the cast, the film was wonderfully written. The colors of red and white were used throughout to represent the evil of Pennywise and the innocence of the children he preyed upon. The horror in this film is masterful. The eerie feeling we get from the town of Derry is felt throughout the entire movie and coupled with the many jump scares in the movie, we are immersed in the true horror the Losers' Club is feeling. There are deep and impactful lessons and themes taught in this film, such as the importance of friendship, the exploitation of trauma, and coming of age. There is even a bit of well-timed humor in "It", which adds to the appeal of the movie. This film will have you on the edge of your seat, tug your emotional strings a bit, and even make you laugh. Overall, this was a great film and I highly recommend "It"!
Rating: 8/10.
arunavaghosh-38673 - 25 January 2024 Terror is there but.. The clown horror depiction is beyond words can explain. Truely Amazing. One thing that was a little off-track is Harrassment on Beverly. U can get evidence of all kind of tortures from her face. I feel sad for her. Amazing work by the artist on her own feelings! Point to be noted, "YOU WILL NOT GET A CARDIAC ARREST, watching the movie!" Its not that scary. A clown with long fangs. Unrealistic. Even the other ghost-like characters. Unrealistic. But one thing which I really loved about the movie is that, THE MESSAGE it gives to younger generation. UNITY IS ALL THAT'S NEEDED DURING TOUGH SITUATIONS. In this Isolated World, the message is well depicted. If you keep aside the horror. The story is awesome. Really really loved the story. The flow of the story has the capacity to touch the viewers' hearts.
My POV is a little different. I am not scared by clowns. So, for horror, I will give it a 4.
But for story setting and clown depiction, i will give it 8.5/10. Really worth watching from this POV.
emjgiddy - 23 October 2023 Great Movie The 2017 adaptation of Stephen King's "IT," directed by Andy Muschietti, is an engaging and terrifying horror film that deserves a solid 8-star rating. This cinematic interpretation of King's iconic novel effectively captures the eerie essence of the source material and introduces a new generation of viewers to the malevolent entity known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
The film is set in the fictional town of Derry, Maine, and follows a group of young friends, the Losers' Club, as they confront their worst fears and a shape-shifting, child-hunting entity that often takes the form of Pennywise. Their initial encounter with the malevolent clown sets the stage for a series of terrifying events that will shape their lives forever.
What sets this adaptation of "IT" apart is its emphasis on the coming-of-age narrative and the camaraderie of the young protagonists. The film successfully balances its horror elements with heartfelt and relatable characters, making the audience genuinely care about the fates of the Losers' Club.
The performances of the young cast are a major highlight. The chemistry between the young actors, including Jaeden Martell, Sophia Lillis, and Finn Wolfhard, is palpable. Bill Skarsgård's portrayal of Pennywise is both menacing and memorable, giving the character a new and terrifying dimension.
The film effectively utilizes jump scares and disturbing imagery to create a sense of dread and unease. The iconic opening scene with Georgie and the encounter in the Neibolt House are particularly chilling. Muschietti's direction is skillful, using both suspense and shock to keep the audience on edge.
While "IT" primarily focuses on the Losers' Club as children, it successfully lays the groundwork for a sequel, which delves into their adult lives. This two-part adaptation allows the story to be explored in greater depth than the 1990 miniseries.
The film explores themes of childhood fears, trauma, and the power of facing one's demons. It's a story about the transition from innocence to experience, wrapped in a terrifying supernatural tale.
In conclusion, "IT" (2017) is a highly effective horror film that captures the essence of Stephen King's novel while providing engaging characters and genuine scares. Its blend of coming-of-age elements and supernatural horror creates a compelling and memorable cinematic experience. With its enduring impact and ability to terrify and touch the audience, it confidently earns an 8-star rating.
keiracochran - 5 October 2022 An emotional rollarcoaster (spoiler free) This movie starts with a very upsetting tone, which paints the picture and sets up character arcs for one of the main actors. The story slowly builds from there and introduces new characters. The news characters add more richness and depth to the story as they provide comic relief and help the plot progress in a smooth way. They show the perspectives of each of the main characters and mesh the stories together in a way that as a writer, I can really admire.
The story gets you so attached which adds to the overall tension of the movie greatly.
Personally, this movie was pretty scary on the first and second time of watching, but now I watch it for laughs and tears.
Also- the kid actors are incredible!! They really bring the story to life in a way that even 10 years ago kids couldn't do that often.
I would recommend mature 12 year olds and up. I first watched these movies when I was 12 and handled it pretty well, but I wouldn't recommend any younger. There is intense cursing, mild but not exactly subtle sexual jokes and references, and extreme violence and gore.
The music is sooo beautiful I kid you not, it's the type of soundtrack you'd want on your playlist.
In all, this is a wonderful movie to watch if you want a rich story with situational comedy, an overall sad and depressing theme, beautiful and moving music, and to be at least mildly spooked by the gore and occasional jump scares.
saturnplaza - 14 August 2022 Could be more on the horror aspect I love the movie and the actors in it, but I feel like there could have been more horror added.
I feel as if it lacked in the 'scary' and would have been a bit better if there was more, but over all its a good movie.
