Emily in Paris goes to Bali
I would really enjoy this mindless romantic comedy with George and Julia, but I was constantly distracted on how the production was showing Bali: like a polished, sterilized, exotic fantasy coming directly from the mind of an average western privileged person.

You know like how the average American thinks holiday destinations are: exotic touristic places with only a few tourists in, lovely beaches without a bazillion of chairs and umbrellas on, caricature locals living the perfect life in huts with no doors or curtains but all kind of electric appliances being exposed to the rain, etc etc etc A fantasy, like a carefully photoshoped card postal.

In other news the plot is stupid and basically another fantasy of the average western person: a fairytale about a young person giving up everything to spend her life with her summer love on a polished exotic paradise. Cause let's be honest here, watching the best sunset in the world is the answer to everything in life!

2 stars for George and Julia, their star quality can make this mediocrity tolerable, in a few scenes anyway.

    Perfect for a plane ride
This film doesn't try to be more than it is. It is a simple romantic/family comedy set in idyllic landscapes that is entertaining enough to spend 104 minutes while travelling for example.

    Is it cliche? Yes.

Do you know how it will end before it begins? Yes.

Does it have predictable and not-that-funny jokes? Yes.

And yet the powerful and charismatic duo George Clooney/Julia Roberts carries the film throughout and make you feel for their characters which is an achievement in itself given the starting point of the film.

There is no cinematography worth mentioning here but the beauty of Bali kind of compensates for that.

If you don't expect much you probably will have a good time.

good comedy lovely story well made
The movie is fun and witty in beautiful places indeed

I enjoy it, with the the right perspective , while the bombs are falling and I am in a place of war and you have 15 seconds to run to the shelters then you hear 15 bombings on your town only then one can appreciate real peolpe having great time in bali and australia.

Julia Roberts is great so also my friends think Bali is one of the most coolest places to visit, good choice for filming all the characters in the movie each one of them has his her own charm. It is inspiring just to go to Bali I know that I don't get disappointed.

You see EVerything is reelative, ENJOY!

Romcom that is neither funny nor romantic
I really wanted to like this movie. I was leaning toward not watching it due to the bad reviews, but my wife decided we'd better give it a shot. I really like Roberts and Clooney and I don't mind a good romcom now and again. I figured that romcoms just get poorer reviews it general, so maybe it's not that bad.

It really is that bad. I wanted to like it, but it's bad in so many ways. The entire premise of the movie is pretty absurd. At the beginning of the movie Roberts and Clooney are supposed to basically despise each other, but it's really not believable. You can tell they're just having fun behind the scenes. The dialogue really isn't great. I'd say I laughed out loud maybe 3 times in the whole movie.

You'd think, "well, if I the plot and dialogue aren't great, maybe I can at least see some nice scenery." Well, the scenery is nice, but it's not even filmed in Bali where the movie is set. How hard would it be to just go there and make it authentic...? They also never explain why the main Balinese guy speaks flawless English.

If you're thinking of giving it a chance, I'd say it's not worth the time.

Roberts and Clooney did not disappoint.
This movie is pure comfort food! A breath of fresh air. Of course it was predictable. Just a sweet and silly little rom-com but very well done. And you can't really go wrong with Julia Roberts and George Clooney, right? The rest of the cast was charming and the cinematography was breathtaking. The story was familiar but somehow it seemed fresh. I enjoyed the heartfelt moments between the mother/father and daughter. The scene where the ladies were getting dressed for the wedding made me tear up. There could have been more like it. The beer pong scene with all the dancing was hilarious! The pilot/boyfriend was a little too ridiculous for me and I thought Billie Lourd should have had more screen time. Overall, it was good but there were some missed opportunities for sure. You don't see this type of movie, with a solid cast and decent budget, released in the theater these days. It's too bad. I'd like to see more.

Devoid of emotion, Full of clichés
Another disappointing movie, where the big-name stars are supposed to be enough to get us to view the film.... because we won't be very entertained.

The script is about as deep as a puddle... "Show don't tell," isn't that what they say about good script writing? Unfortunately, it's very difficult to get engaged in watching this film, we are walking through it, watching from afar.

The main characters are supposedly archenemies due to a failed marriage. We never feel any regret for them, about a missed opportunity for Love. The movie never establishes that they were truly in love to begin with, and the reason for divorcing is very shallow and never really explained.

    So disappointing..

    Enjoyed every minute!
Oh don't listen to the negative reviews. This is a movie to just sit back and enjoy without overthinking. Can't people do just that anymore? You're spending almost 2 hours in a paradise with Julia Roberts and George Clooney, so the acting is guaranteed. The rest of the cast is awesome as well. So what if the story is predictable? Sometimes it's ok for our guess to be right when everything else is right. I laughed at the simple jokes and felt wonderful after watching this movie. This is the perfect movie if you want to take a break from trying to be the most intelligent person you know. I don't think the producers intended for it to be other than that.

Comedy vehicle for Roberts and Clooney.
This came available streaming on NBC's Peacock yesterday, December 9th. My wife and I watched it at home.

The first part of the movie is difficult for me, I hate to see bickering couples and there is a lot of that, between the divorced couple, played by Roberts (54) and Clooney (60). Each one trying to throw a bigger insult. Fortunately they began to moderate that as the movie went forward.

Their first encounter was a plane trip to see their daughter graduate from college, apparently headed for a career practicing law. But not many weeks later, as their daughter is vacationing with a friend in Bali, they find out she wants to stay there and marry a nice young man who farms seaweed at his home island's water's edge.

So the whole movie is about the divorced parents traveling to Bali and trying to sabotage her wedding so she will drop what they think is a silly decision and throwing away her career chances. This provides opportunities for a number of things, most of them interesting and entertaining. Like getting bitten while swimming with the Porpoises.

All in all a lightweight movie that is entertaining mostly for having Roberts and Clooney in the roles of the parents. And in the end maybe they find that they have more in common than they believed.

    Americans doing their usual thing...
...appropriating and misrepresenting other people's cultures. Seaweed farmers in Bali living in a paradise on the beach. Sure. Ok. They clearly haven't been to Bali and waded through the 1000s of drunken Australians?

The costs of flying everyone over there must've been astronomical so they must've cut corners on the supporting cast. It's a typical Hollywood rom com too. They make it every couple of years, with different actors, a couple who hate each other are thrown together again by a series of 'hilarious' circumstances, but Clooney and Roberts make it more bearable at least, but like I said they're let down by co-stars.

    Meh
We were looking for something new to watch on date night and splurged the $20 to watch this Early Access. It's a very easy movie to watch, predictable in every way. Nice to see George Clooney and Julia Robert's back together on the big screen. The setting is a gorgeous backdrop. We just found the story a bit flat. Probably because it's just not very compelling. I wish more had been put into the writing and the young puppy love French boyfriend was a strange addition. The storyline's been done in other movies with more energy. Also, what was up with Julia Robert's wardrobe in this movie? All in all it was just ok.
