    Mark Rylance is brilliant
I am surprised at the lower ratings on this. I honestly thought it was a brilliant film, all due to the stunning performance by Mark. He inhabits the main character completely and I also liked the staging in the tailor's shop. Every scene is on the one set - beautifully created with all the fabrics and layout..

Reminded me of the old movies of that ilk. All tight scenes and great acting, no matter the plot. Staged more like a play where there is very little distraction from what is going on between the characters.

I imagine there were plot holes but frankly I didn't catch any with all the suspense that was going on.

Just when you think you've nailed what's going on, five minutes later you see you were all wrong. Again. And again.

I wish there were more films like this made in all their riveting glory.

Full of tension and superb acting.

    10/10 from me.

    Rylance shines.
A film where you could see it easily become a stage play for its portrait in one location. Mark Rylance is just so good in this. And so is everyone else. The story is something of a slow burn to start, but like any fire blazes by the end. Anytime you really care about the characters indicates both the writing and performances are top notch. Don't be fooled by its simple exterior. Like a great suit, it fits perfectly, comfortably, and is sharp to those with the proper eye. Compelling and very satisfying from start to finish. Highly recommended for anyone who loves timeless and great cinema. Watch if you get a chance.

A true Movie that would be a wow on stage too
Having been bored and looking for something to watch I came across the outfit.

Set in Chicago in 1954, this great story tells the tale of the 'Cutter' not Tailor Leonard who makes suits for local gangland mobsters.

The story is gripping. Great theatre. Mark Rilance is captivating in the title role. The cast each own their own characters brilliantly. Great viewing.

The focus is about Leonard's involvement and further involvement with the family following an incident in his shop following a long day making a suit. The arrival of the Boyle gang - the main protagonists in this simple story act as the aggressive roles to amiable Leonard. Everyone uses him and treats him 'just a Tailor'. This leads to his interjection of him being a 'cutter' and not a Tailor.

The secretary looks after him. All the characters have a secret. But how long is it before they share their story to the rest???

Terrific movie, with a stellar performance from Mark Rylance.
Having arrived on Chicago from Saville Row, London, master tailor Leonard has to survive a deadly night at his Tailor's shop.

It is the perfect game of cat and mouse, after the long opening sequence, and opening fifteen minutes, I wasn't too sure it was going to be the kind of movie I'd enjoy, however, it opens up, and from that moment onwards it's a dramatic tale of intrigue and suspense. I could imagine this being done on the stage.

Well paced, original, I don't have many films to compare it to, it is quite a unique watch. The visuals are very much on point, as you'd expect the fashions are exquisite.

Not w big cast list, but every single character has purpose, and plays a rich part in this well woven mystery.

Mark Rylance, (it staggers me how much his voice sounds like Donald Pleasance,) delivers a career best performance as The Master cutter, I thought he was phenomenal here.

    Loved it, 9/10.

    A great chamber play
Chicago criminal organization are ruling the city. An unknown tailor established his business and his longest customer is a gangster boss. Everything is ordinary until 2 gangsters entering his shop and forcing him into this criminal game. He stays always polite and knows how to play with words. Can he outsmart them or is he only a victim. How long will he survive?

It's an exciting play and exciting story. It's presented in a gentle and calm manner. Who plays off whom? Who is the puppet master? It is not a typical gangster movie and place at only one place.

Definitely a movie to recommend. Have fun!

    Lesson in acting
Sometimes it seems that movies are forgetting about actors. Robots, computer generated creatures, never-ending action sequences, remake of a remake that was remade long time ago, etc... And then, when one almost gives up, comes this beautiful exercise in moviemaking that solely relies on acting. Little, dinky tailor-shop, dark and suffocating during bleak Chicago snowy winter, older, stooped man meticulously creating perfect suits in almost religious reverence. This magnificent homage to 50's gangster flicks, discreetly introduces menacing characters into this haven of isolated escape. And then Sir Mark Rylance, whose craft is precise and void of manneristic vanity, carries the whole story with his quiet and mesmerizing presence. Lesson in acting and class.

More like a play than movie, but it works
It is very hard to have a movie that essentially take place in one location and to have it work. This movies succeeds. Excellent acting by the protagonist that kept the story enact and grounded since many of the other actors appeared a little over-the-top. It has mystery, drama and more action than what I expected. Credit to the director on being able to racket the tension while working in a confined space. There are several unexpected twists that are well written into the story without appearing tacked on for effect. My only two negatives are a couple of scenes have to be re-watched to understand what is happening and the other is the number of gunshots with no police arriving. Overall I liked it and I generally rate most movies at 5 or below so this is a plus.

Again, this almost has a theatre-like feel to it, so it won't be for everyone.

    British=Devil
The British invented the suit to hide their uncivilization. The French invented perfume to hide their stench. The world has suffered a lot from these two nations. It's a very good movie showing the English games. I recommend you to watch. It's about the English making a mess with cold blood.

Wonders were created with a low budget. The movie takes place in a single location and has a total of 9 actors. The English character is very well played. The movie could have been better had it been a little shorter. While watching the movie, the movie will draw you in and you will not understand how the time passes.
