keithmzla - 16 June 2024 Too much effort into style, no substance This seemed to be to be a showcase for Wes Anderson's wacky but aesthetically interesting style. The story was entirely lacking. The characters were uninteresting and neutrally-likeable at best. I couldn't wait for this to end. Sure, the colorful American Southwest imagery was pretty, but that's not enough to carry a movie.
The feeling I had was that we were supposed to marvel at how clever the wooden characters were supposed to be. They were not clever, or interesting.
The most interesting thing about this was to see Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawk's daughter and see how she looks like them. The whole cast seemed bored with the entire thing and were just plodding along.
I have seen other Wes Anderson movies and haven't really liked them much, but this one is the final straw. This one pushes him over the edge. This one is where he seems to say "I want to inflict my quirky ironical style with wooden characters on you and I do not care at all about telling an interesting story."
No More. I will never again put myself through this misery. No more Wes Anderson movies for me. He has jumped the shark, turned around, and jumped over it again. Booo. Do not recommend at all.
kristimmkm - 29 May 2024 Beautiful but still a waste of money It appears there were no budget limitations for the sets or the cast. The 50's look and feel was perfect and the good natural lighting was a delight. The cast has twice as many big names as most movies. What a waste.
Some people will say I just didn't get it. Not true -- I get it but I don't believe it was an effective way to deliver the message. We all deal with grief, depression, and our lives being detoured out of our control, but this movie didn't provide anything helpful or even enlightening. If it was merely meant to show we all have similar issues, Wes Anderson was "preaching to the choir", as my grandmother used to say. This was memorable for being one of the worst big budget movies I've ever seen.
The triplet little girls were the absolute highlights of this movie, with the cocky roadrunner a close second.
guerreiroonline-40436 - 4 April 2024 Color palette. I decided to watch it for its comedy and attracted by the color palette. Everything looks like a toy in the film, but the setting is real, it was captured near two small towns on the outskirts of Madrid, Spain. I didn't research the cast beforehand and I was impressed with the cast and how he managed to bring them all together with a budget of 25 million (mainly because he included Seu Jorge, lol, lol, lol). I'm not going to pretend that I understood the film, if there is any analogy, I honestly don't understand it. It's just a matter for directors and writers. It's not a movie, but it's pretty crazy and makes you laugh.
