SnoopyStyle - 13 August 2023 interesting doc interesting life It's been a few years since Tony's shocking suicide death. This is an HBO documentary with CNN about the celebrated cook's life. I personally didn't follow him until his CNN days. I never saw his Travel Channel show. I know about the book. I know of him. I like the guy, but I'm more mixed with Parts Unknown. I never considered it as a real food show. It's more a foodie show. It's great as a travelogue. As social commentary, Tony can get repetitive. I don't remember what was shown in the Haiti episode. I wonder if they showed the chaos of the food stall and what he said about it in the show. The last section has a lot about his relationship with Asia Argento. It has to be. It is one of the most important part of the documentary. It left me a little uncomfortable. It's a lot of Tony friends talking Asia without her giving her side of the story. I doubt that she would ever participate, but somebody in the show has to give voice to her side. In the end, there are only two people in the room. One is dead and the other isn't talking. This is not so simple or straight forward. It does show the troubled interior person with amazing outward success.
zoelsheridan - 17 July 2022 The Sad Truth about Tony An poignant and tragic telling of Anthony Bourdain. It's a very powerful reminder of the damage and sadness left behind when someone makes the decision to take their own life.
michaelRokeefe - 17 April 2022 Life catches up with culinary icon. He had a larger-than-life personality, adventurous spirit and love of food. Working every job in a professional kitchen, Anthony Bourdain became a culinary force to be reckoned with.
After tasting a freshly caught oyster, the celebrity chef began chronicling his experiences in the "culinary underbelly" before describing fabulous foods while traveling the globe 27 times. Bourdain was always candid about his addictions to heroin, cocaine and use of LSD.
Bourdain struggled with his personal demons most of his life and thought of suicide in his most bluest of times. On June 8, 2018, the icon was found dead in a French hotel. His obvious suicide toxicology report showed no trace of any narcotics.
This is a rather insightful, loving and personal look at Anthony Bourdain's inspired, but troubled life.
