crumpytv - 1 April 2024 Overlong Woke Action Drama When it comes to culture correction and political casting this is not subtle.
It is there throughout, the subliminal multi culture casting in every ensemble scene, the changing of gender and ethnicity of major characters.
Truly awful fake cockney accents.
Women's militant suffrage in 1885. I don't think so.
Animated style action scenes.
Thankfully no reprise for the older Holmes brother.
Apart from the blatant social preaching, the film started off as fun, but it dragged on, and on, and on. I thought it was never going to end.
On one hand it is like Harry Potter (without the magic) on the other audience demographic appears to be young teens and yet there are some quite ferocious fight scenes.
A lot of CGI which is interesting to see a perspective of London in the 1880s.
Not sure who the target audience is.
dawsononian - 17 August 2023 I really wanted to like this.... The first movie was good, unique and had a nice twist on the typical Sherlock Holmes story. This one didn't try hard enough.
After a solid start we digressed to stereotype and an attempt to send a message about the matchstick girls, got a little preachy. The ending was clunky - the reveal of Moriaty, the resolution, and Henry Cavill's character was very flat (THE Sherlock Holmes...and yes I know he's not the title character). This just didn't have the same intrigue of the first movie. Sure hope they don't try and make a third, the actors deserve better.
Dare I say it but the Moriaty reveal was impossible and while movies such as this shouldn't be 'realistic' it was impossible for the time frame and impossible for the limitation we already saw on the character (ie. Given the expressed limitations the character themselves said they had there was no way they could have done what the character would have had to do).
I would rate this a phone movie - halfway through I was on my phone.
roysumitro - 18 April 2023 Juicer than the first movie if 10 watch with a parent only if you are that age I don"t reccomenend this movie to 9 year olds at all because there is this U/A 13 Scene where :
!Enola Holmes and Tewksbury kiss in a train(This scene is exciting for a person who has watched the first movie because they wanted it a lot) So if you are 11 you are free to watch this alone I watched this movie with my mom it's based on true events but characters are completely fictional incase anyone wanted to meet them I think if you are watching this before 1st movie than watch the first movie it contains some vital information for this movie I think one was more U/A13 Written 18/4/23 Watched November 2022.
chgonzalezg - 2 January 2023 Another feminist and "inclusive" manifest from Netflix In this movie all men are weak, idiot or evil, and all women are victims.
Enola Holmes can defeat Sherlock Holmes in a fight. Three women can defeat four policeman in a fight. Enola can defeat almost anyone in a fight. In fact, no man can defeat a woman in a fight in this movie.
Two of the most iconic characters from the Arthur Conan Doyle books are now afroamerican, and one is a woman.
The script is decent and the movie is almost enjoyable. But the continuous feminist and inclusive indoctrination ruins all.
In conclusion: another feminist and "inclusive" manifest from Netflix. What a surprise.
niplips - 18 December 2022 maybe PC for today, but not for Victorian England. Ok, I know filmmakers are trying to be inclusive, but let's not go overboard when doing period pieces. Dr. Watson was an Army surgeon, wounded in the 2nd Afghan war, and very white. Doyle's Moriarity was a college professor, and most certainly a male, also very white. If film-makers want to make movies about period literature, they need to present the period faithfully, or change the period. The casting in this one would have been more appropriate in the Holmes series set in modern times. The Victorian England on display in this one never existed, and could not have existed, given the prejudices of the time.
Zi_Reviews_Movies - 3 December 2022 An entertaining family movie Are you a teenage girl? Are you a young adult? Are you watching this as a family?
If you've answered yes to any of the questions, go ahead, you have an entertaining watch lined up with a quick, charming and adventurous Millie Bobby Brown.
But if you're a Sherlock Holmes stan or are looking for a resemblance to Sir Arthur's books, you're at the wrong place and you're up for a lot of disappointment.
Well, I enjoyed the chase, the breaking of the fourth wall, an enthusiastic Enola and all of the other characters. There are elements of surprise throughout the film and it isn't as easily laid out as some of the IMDb reviews claim. Though I did like the previous one better, I look forward to watching the next one.
sxrpnch - 27 November 2022 Many wtf moments Spoiler Alert:
They tried to start a protest/ walk out but no one went, then as she was leaving the little girl started stomping her foot and that made everyone else follow suit and they decided to walk out then? I don't know what changed lmao there's many moments like this.
The first is much better.
This one all of the clues just are random and don't make sense. They don't connect lol the acting is way too serious and dumb at the same time.
I don't understand why she's so good at fighting but always gets caught and has to escape repeatedly
Her moms appearance doesn't make an impact at all lol.
