cluelessdinosour - 2 June 2023 COULD BE BETTER It had a lot of potential! The first Half of the movie was great, the plot/casting/scenery was awesome. But the second half was disappointing mainly due to the lack of chemistry between the main characters. The movie played out having victoria justices character having a deeper relationship with the fellow farm hands than with the hot guy she was supposed to be head over heals for. They needed more cute/flirty scenes focusing on the relationship between them and not just him being hot and her being hardworking determined and independent. Even when they were together for scenes they just did not seem in love. The kissing was awful between the two bc of their different energies. He was more of a calm slower kisser and she was very fast. They were not going the same pace which made it weird to whatch. UGHH the pool scene was the biggest disappointment! Instead of taking a moment to deepen their relationship and have like a cute, emotional or flirty convo between them they have the two of them swimming in silent circles around eachother. TO MAKE IT WORSE she wore a big T-shirt in the water. Like I get it but if she was actually crushing on him she would take the opportunity to try to get him to see her in a sexy way rather than in dirty farm clothes all the time. PLUS it was a romantic set up like from the sparkling water in the night sky with ambient lighting to the hot guy half naked sitting at the edge of the pool waiting for her to join him. It made me so mad!!! Again THERE WAS BARELY IF NOT ZERO ACTUAL ROMANCE BETWEEN THE TWO AS THE MOVIE PROGRESSED. They needed more bonding scenes together! Bottom line it was okay, I would not whatch it again or recomend it but the actors were not cringy which was refreshing. It just had so so much waisted potential.
crichardhale - 8 October 2022 Smooth and Enjoyable, Like a Barrel-aged Chardonnay It's a typical romance, but with some interesting twists, beautiful scenery and a delightful cast. It helped set the stage for a delightful evening at home. We have a great home theatre and the music put it through its paces. Some of the Australian accents are a little heavy so I suggest turning on closed captions to help out. I appreciate when a director and cast set out to entertain for the pure joy of entertaining. If you're looking for reality and a believable plot this isn't your movie. If you goal is to have fun, laugh, be entertained, and put the "real world" aside for a while, this vintage is perfect. I gave it a 10 based on the enjoyment it gave us.
buffamantid - 5 July 2022 Well, much of the movie needs work, but if you want to watch something mindlessly or don't care too much about specifics this could be for you. Sadly, I am not one of those people. I'll have spoilers in the second paragraph, so only read the first paragraph if you want to avoid them. The movie was ok, like many other people pointed out the cinematography was really nice (except for one weird sunset shot where it felt like a green screen). The music was good, everything was pretty good, the credits seemed short so it looks like a smaller team worked on this which is pretty impressive for what it is. If you don't mind some overreactions (as you often find in romcoms) and some slightly fake feeling acting, this will be just fine for you.
Ok, onto the nitty gritty. I had some issues with the scripting, firstly. Victoria did pretty good all things considered, I feel like she was mostly weighed down by the lines feeling... incredibly fake at times. I'm not sure if she just isn't the best actor or if it's the script, either way, she kinda stuck out like a sore thumb in the movie. You know when you're in the shower after an argument or confrontation and start replaying it in your head to try and come up with the best one liners? That's what this movie felt like a lot of the time. Adam did a better job, maybe it was just because he had fewer lines or was more chill, but regardless he sold his character pretty well. I actually wish Max talked MORE in the movie, poor guy got cut off by Lola every five seconds as he tried to explain things to her. Secondly, as another used said, I really disliked she had to freak out on him because he.. didn't tell her he was rich and an heir to the wine company? Like, he even said the only other person who knows is his sister. That means he's been working on this farm for years and out of the dozens of people who've slaved there for years alongside him don't even know his last name, but after 2 weeks she's like "wow. How could you."
Like, I get it, there needs to be conflict to have the movie go along. But why even mention she's going through a divorce if it never does anything for the plot? I heard the terms like "I pressed pause on romance" several times but she never passed up an opportunity to get romantic with anyone because they never added any competition for max. I swing for both teams so I was simping the whole time, she's a gorgeous girl. What about another attractive stablehand, perhaps with a rivalry to Max, also getting feelings for her and being more aggressive about showing it, taking advantage of Max's introvert nature by taking the first steps with Lola. Imagine; change her exes background a little (perhaps so he doesn't seem so promiscuous, make them break up because of other things) her ex boyfriend hears she's starting a new company and flies out to Australia to show her he's committed to her. He visits the farm and helps her with his chores, max feels threatened, forces him to make a move on her so she doesn't lose her, idk, something like that.
The kisses were ok, I've seen much better chemistry between two actors before. Overall, it really didn't feel like they were leading up to like each other. WHY did he feel SO close to her, enough to reveal his last name? I mean, she couldn't have worked harder than every other person who worked there; heck, they lived there and she was going back in two weeks, it'd be an insurmountable gap to overcome! Maybe because she's a city girl and it's like oh yeah this city girl is hard working but even then, to reveal your last name which you've scrubbed from the internet and kept a secret from your closest friends and colleagues whom you've known for years, it's like, there's gotta be a reason. If you told me he started to trust her because she said her mom died of cancer like his I'd at least be like, "Ok, this guy clearly is more of an introvert, doesn't get out much, I doubt he's met many other young attractive women who've lost their mom to cancer like him" and then he sees her hard work. But, idk lmao. Is the deepest we're going in this movie "man hot. Woman hot. Together. Now," like lmaooo idk me finding BOTH leads perfectly attractive leads in a rom com is already a minute possibility, it sucks that the story and acting were lacking.
It just felt too rushed without enough chemistry and moments between them. Or maybe the moments weren't acted well enough for me to be like "ah yes! A moment!"
That snake scene for example, where max picks Lola up princess style, that didn't feel that monumental. Maybe I'm just applying my realistic worldview to that of a romcom, but Idk lmaooo. Yes, he's attractive. My jaw would've been on the floor when I got there and saw him in the house and then I would've kept the horny to myself as I worked to get the wine deal.
Side characters were ok, not great not bad, just side characters. They picked some beautiful places to film, that waterfall moment made me speechless.
nimitmuni - 14 June 2022 Yapping is not acting Just horrible. For a start, they hired a pair of amateurs, probably nepotists, to lead in this garbage. Both the lead actors pairing are a turn off with no on-screen chemistry whatsover. The story is directly proportional to the torture of a normal functioning brain.
Completely cringe. Staring at a wall would be more productive and yield more over watching this low budget filth.
