    Sigh.
Don't get me wrong, my palms were sweating and I was on the edge of my seat until it was over, but there are so many glaring flaws in this film that require you to suspend all belief. Firstly, phone batteries don't last that long. Secondly, holding onto someone falling whilst holding onto a pole defies physics unless you're the hulk. SO many scenes that defy physics generally. Thirdly, as if two experienced climbers would do this climb so carelessly (and the movie didn't explain their foolishness either...like they could have shown the climber's father being disapproving of her hobby, resulting in her hiding it from him or both of them knowingly doing something illegal...any explanation would have been great). Fourthly, I seriously doubt she could have held herself up for hours to charge the drone battery, especially on no water, food, or sleep. Lastly, the ending. WTF was that about? No explanation as to how she was rescued and she went straight home despite sustaining a serious injury, dehydration, shock, trauma, and grief? Get out of here!

    Suspend belief
    Good points:

Great premises for a suspense film. I hate heights so this captured my fear pretty much from the off.

The actresses playing the lead parts were believable characters. Good chemistry between them and they kept me watching through the whole film.

The twist. I won't put any spoilers here but I really enjoyed the twist and it added an extra layer of chills.

Really does give a sense of the predicament they were in.

    Bad points:

These were supposed to be experienced risk takers but they climbed 2000ft with 50ft of rope, the wrong clothing (how cold and windy will it be 2000ft up!?) and then dangle off the edge of a platform the size of a large pizza literally just holding hands for safety?

Similarly, they didn't secure themselves at the top with anything despite having the equipment to do so.

Why not fly a phone down with the drone, let it send a message and then fly it back with the phone intact?

Laying there watching videos while trying to conserve battery life.

They took very little supplies with them and told no one where they were going. Also, why didn't anyone report them missing? They were gone for days!

When Hunter admitted the affair, it kind of fell very flat (excuse the pun). They talked for 5 minutes and then it was as though it never happened. What was the point of that? They missed real opportunities to flesh out the relationship between the two women and this seemed a poor offering.

All that build up and suspense with the 'will they, won't they' survive and then the rescue wasn't shown at all. Just cut to the bit where the Dad arrives to take her home, no questions asked! Also, why were Becky's lips totally back to normal on the ground when just an hour or so before they were dry as a bone and cracking? Same with her face, which was totally back to its normal complexion and not the drawn, washed out look she had mere hours before.

Overall it was a great premise and started well, but just kind of petered out towards the end. The ending felt really rushed and didn't make sense. A lot of stuff didn't make sense with this, which was a real shame as it could have been as good as The Descent.

just enough to keep you watching
"Fall" (2022) stands as a testament to the enduring allure of suspenseful thrillers within contemporary cinema. Directed by Scott Mann, the film presents a narrative landscape teeming with potential, promising audiences a journey rife with tension, intrigue, and unexpected twists. While "Fall" delivers on several fronts, boasting a fair storyline and visually arresting scenes, its reliance on familiar tropes may leave some viewers yearning for a touch of originality.

At Official Goth Radio, where we are enthusiasts of diverse narratives, we approached "Fall" with eager anticipation, ready to delve into its world of mystery and deceit. The film certainly captures attention from the outset, drawing viewers into its web of secrets with skillful pacing and atmospheric cinematography. Mann's direction infuses each frame with a sense of foreboding, setting the stage for a suspenseful journey that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats.

Central to the film's appeal are its characters, each imbued with complexity and depth by a talented ensemble cast. The protagonist, portrayed with conviction by the lead actor, navigates the treacherous terrain of the narrative with a blend of vulnerability and resilience. Supporting characters, though compelling in their own right, often feel underutilized, their potential overshadowed by the film's relentless focus on the central storyline.

While "Fall" succeeds in delivering moments of genuine tension and excitement, its reliance on familiar tropes may prove divisive among viewers. Echoes of past cinematic endeavors, such as "Adrift" (2018), are evident throughout the film, leaving some to question the extent of its originality. Despite this, "Fall" manages to carve its own identity within this framework, offering audiences a captivating journey that, while not groundbreaking, remains engaging from start to finish.

In terms of visual craftsmanship, "Fall" shines, with Mann and his team showcasing a keen eye for atmospheric storytelling. From sweeping vistas to claustrophobic interiors, each scene is meticulously crafted to evoke a sense of unease and intrigue. The film's score, haunting and evocative, further enhances the tension permeating each moment, guiding viewers through the narrative labyrinth with finesse.

Ultimately, our assessment of "Fall" culminates in a respectable 3 out of 5 stars. While the film entertains and intrigues, it falls short of reaching its full potential, held back by its reliance on familiar tropes and storytelling conventions. Nonetheless, "Fall" remains a worthy addition to the cinematic landscape, offering audiences a compelling glimpse into a world of mystery and deceit. As enthusiasts of diverse narratives, we encourage viewers to experience "Fall" for themselves, immersing themselves in its atmospheric thrills and uncovering the secrets that lie within.

    Stupid but thrilling
In the beginning. Gets your nerves on edge just to go swimming. Climbing mountains isnt easy but these girls were quite cheesy, every decision they made was wrong so now they have to hold strong. Wearing the back on one shoulder made it fall and now they climb down against the rotten wall. Nearly dead she clings on a rope then she falls slippery slope. Best friend tries to pull her up and succeedes even when hope is up. Cant believe all I saw it was a joke I was in Awe. No food was brought and only one water bottle, but they share, to soon be able and trottle down there. They threw their shoes and phone fell hard, now its time to stop this charade. Ending is powerful I kid you not, watch it and see if you dont believe me.

    LOVE IT!!!
This movie sets a different tone to other survival-genre ones out there. Reminds me a lot of 47 metres down , where sisters need to survive underwater.

I cant understand why people would climb a tower with such a height, since it's just a movie , so it's OKAY, lets just watch it. And it didnt disappoint!

Those who have severe fear of heights shouldn't watch this as it might send your heart rate whooping high.

There are plot twists that surprised me at the end of the movie.

The tower does exist in real life but the movie isn't based on true story which gave me a big relief i love movies that shoot straight to the main events without much yak yak yak.

A thrilling and horrific tale of survival
The movie is very simple. What you see in the trailer is what you get. There's not a lot to it. But the real magic that makes this movie special is that it fully commits to it's scenario. No cop-outs. No easy solutions. The main characters are put into a horrific scenario, and you have to experience it with them in all it's vertigo inducing glory.

The movie is very well directed. It's visually stunning and very intense. It's technically a low budget movie by 2022 standards but it doesn't feel cheap at all. The effects are convincing. The movie moves along at a good pace. The plot is simple but tight. There really aren't any unreasonable plot holes.

The acting is good. The characters are fairly cliche so you shouldn't expect an Academy Award winning performance here. But I felt like Grace Caroline Currey and Virginia Gardner did a good job of expressing their emotions and the terror of the situation. They did well with the material given.

Overall, I think this was an excellent movie. Fans of man vs nature type of horror movies like Jaws will find a lot to like here.

    Anxiety inducing, loved it
This is now on my list of favorite movies to be completely honest, my eyes never left the screen, and I'll probably rewatch it around Christmas every year!

Some things were painfully obvious and/or predictable or made no sense like the vultures part however, it was very fun to watch.

One part even made me question reality, like one of those "what do you mean this was not real?" moments. I saw the previous movie made by the same director and I am not sure why I did not see that coming!

And I cackled at the car situation for some reason, hahaha, although I don't think I was supposed to be laughing at that part.

Pretty good movie though if you simply like to watch movies for the sake of watching movies.

    Quick thriller, cool plot twist
This film had a pretty cool premise. Two girls who love climbing get stuck on a tower 2000 feet up. It sounds believable I guess. There are of course the things you think that you would have done differently but if you dwell on them you won't enjoy the movie.

My main gripe were the two girls they casted for the roles. They were just not believable at all. They weren't bad actors, just didn't fit that role. They would be more suited for a comedy or romantic film.

There was a plot twist towards the end that I didn't see coming. You question a few actions of one of the characters but then it makes sense.

Again not a bad little flick!

    And for what?
One of the dumbest movie I managed to sit through. It would've been so easy to make it at least decent, that's the most frustrating part!

Setting up with "imitating" a professional climber scene was the worst direction to take. Should have just own the "content creator", "not the brightest" characters perspective instead. They have no sense of fear, one of them is just crazy, the other was one phone call away from suicide the night before, so why not do something like this?

They are just normal girls with dangerous hobbies. They didn't dedicate most of their life to be on a wall like that at the very beginning of the movie. Boom, suddenly it's not a problem that they don't have proper equipment, not a problem that they have average built body, it's not a problem that they have literal zero preparation. They're just doing something criminal and criminally stupid. Easy.

The scene where she stops the fall with one hand? How no one said no to that? How? Why one of them just disappears from the shot for solid seconds, while she had more than enough time to fix the rope to something, so she doesn't have to use her (superhero) arms for that? Countless things like that with easy solutions.

Viewers who are leaving crazy high scores and flabbergasted by just the height and tension. Come on. Go and watch Free Solo! Right now.
