Kantara

Shiva, a tribal vagabond lives with his mother in hamlet, stays away from the traditional Daivaradhane and Bhoota Kola legacy due to an unforgettable childhood incident. He is happy loafing around with his friends and doing petty jobs for his landlord. When Forest officer Murali enters the scene, it gives a fresh dimension to the man-vs-nature fight. Phenomenal masterpiece of the century
Let's conclude kantara: believers, art lovers and non-believers.

    1. Believers: Those who are in touch with the traditions, rituals and spritual beliefs of local devas of rural india, can co relate to the story and can feel the storyline, energy and shocking climax of the movie and it's characters deep into their souls.

    2. Art lovers: From the beginning till the last minute, art lovers can't take their eyes off the screen. The art has been perfectly demonstrated by the director, actor, the musicians, story writer and ofcourse the very tiny details can be seen easily. You can't deny it's an Oscar performance.

    3. Non- believers: Now those not in the above 2 categories, will never feel the connection with the movie, 2 minute silence for them.

Such a brilliant masterpiece . Kudos to the team.

    OUTSTANDING , HIGHLY ENTERTAINING MOVIE!!
This is the best movie I've seen in years, probably going to be my favorite all time movies. The filmography drew me in .. so beautiful is the setting, and film work is exquisite. All of the details thought out in this movie. Awesome character development.. building of the plot... then plot twist that doesn't leave you in the balances for long before you get what you crave.. which is the conquest of good over evil. Truly a movie for the history books. I pray this director and actor Rishab Shetty has a long and fruitful career in the film industry and a blessed life!! Thank you for this wonderful piece of art.

Boring garbage until the last 15-20 minutes and you know it
Only last 15-20 minutes post Guliga Daiva making Shiva his avatar or possessing him are great and mindblowing. Not even Heath Ledger could have done what Rishabh Shetty did. Rest everything is garbage. Basically the point of the movie is to reward the tamasic qualities of the protagonist by giving him moksha or God status. Shiva does intoxications, drinks alcohol, smokes, cre_eps the girl out, touches girl's body inapproriately, disobeys his mother, compares sax with a woman with riding a motorcycle and laughs at the joke (blatant objectification of women to sax object), hunts, kills and eats varaha (wild boars), none of these tamasic qualities are punished so the film literally vomits on the concept of karma. Instead the last 15-20 minutes play like a Christian concept of resurrection, forgiveness and miracle. You can even be a serial re_pist but after accepting Jesus, everything is forgiven and you are rewarded with eternal bliss of heaven. Kantara proves why Christian missionaries are so successful in converting the tribals. Not to mention those scary jump_scares from the demigod like it was some western horror movie demon.

One more thing. If the things Shiva is shown doing before the last 20 minutes as I described above were shown being done by a Bollywood protagonist, same people hyping Kantara will be calling for its boycot. 🙂

Did we watch the same movie?
Did we really watch the same movie?

The cinematography itself of this movie is absolutely fantastic, really captivating - well done for the cameramen and recording producer. But that's about the positives I can say.

This movie can't decide what it wants to be and what story it wants to tell. Storyline is going left and right, not really coherent or making any sense. What is the message?

For me the message was that you can be a horrible human being in the name of tradition/culture and you can get away with abusive behaviour, destroying the environment, killing wild and endangered animals, excessive drinking and objectifying women.

The main character who is supposedly this "legend" is about, and who is titled a "hero" is having anger issues, physically abusive, has a drinking and weed problem, exploits nature for his own agenda/benefit oh and has a raging fit when he doesn't win.

At the beginning of this movie I thought it had great potential, and that it will make you think about the fragile balance of living with nature. Well it didn't.

The environmental officer who is very reasonably tried to protect the jungle was (almost) portrayed as the "bad guy".

It also had many many clichés that you seen in thousands of Indian movies. Seriously why the villan always look exactly the same? I am sure we all knew who is going to be the villain from the first time they showed him to us.

In conclusion I would have loved this movie, if the story is at least coherent and that it had some positive message. But unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

Also I kinda feel like the positive comments here are the same and they might have been paid to say it was a good movie?

    Hard pass for me.

    Decent movie, but surely overrated
If you watch this movie without much expectation and keeping away the hype that it created, then you will enjoy it for sure. Cinematic beauty of coastal Karnataka, local rituals of Tulu tribe (Bhoota Kola), the build-up of story is pretty good.

But few areas disappointed me. As a audience, I was eagerly waiting to see more of Daiva/ Varaha-roopam/ Guliga Deva, but those were shown in hurry and did not satisfy me fully.

The climax was the only good thing that the movie offers. Rishabh Shetty's acting skills in that climax has really impressed me.

Overall it was a good one-time watch movie......

    Overrated and can be skipped
My review for this movie: 1. Cutting tree is glorified.

    2. Man who kills the forest animals is the hero for everyone.

    3. Disrespectful attitude towards women is okay and touching and pinching a women seems to be completely normal as per the movie.

Only first and last 10 mins is good and rest of the movie can be easily skipped.

Really don't understand how such movies gets glorified with such shallow plots. Already such issues of deforestation, killing of animals and eve teasing of women is being widely fought over but glorifying these in movies just makes entire effort goes down the drain.

Storyline could be easily depicted without showing such nonsense.

    almost entrancing
The movie was great. Although the plot was predictable, and I could see what was gonna happen from miles away, the topic was interesting. Rishab Shetty did a brilliant job as Panjurli Daiva and Guliga Daiva. For the scale and budget it was made in, it's truly remarkable how they pulled it off.

However, in a religious film like this, where Shiva was shown as a special child of god, almost as if he was the "chosen one", to show Shiva pinching bellies and harassing women, and in one scene, continuing to making out with her when she said 'no' was just so disgusting to see. Then he later went on to dance in the Bhoota Kolas.

Did I watch the same film that everyone is talking about ?
Watched this with a lot of expectations due to good reviews from friends and the hype online but ..... did I just watch a different film ? Cause to me it was just an average film. The story was pretty average, cliched (this plot has been heavily repeated throughout the history of Indian cinema) and I got so bored after 1.5 hrs into the film that I had to stop. I kept waiting all this time for the story to pick up and for the film to get better and engaging but it never did. The protagonist is someone I couldn't root for at all. I sat down again later to complete the film in the hope to understand the hype. The cinematography and setup in some scenes is very brilliant specially those showing the ancient ritualistic practices involving the demi God and the Kola dance but that's about it. Rishabh Shetty performed great in the last 15 mins and the background score in the climax was good as well but nothing else was special, gripping or out of the ordinary for the rest 2.10 hrs of the film. I am really and heavily confused about all the hype. There are much better films out there which never received the recognition they deserved. Kantara for me was only a one time watch and I could have easily given it a pass.

A Powerful and Moving Faith-Based Film
The acting was top-notch and the cinematography was stunning, bringing the story to life in a way that was both authentic and engaging.

However, I must warn those who are not into religion that this movie may not be for them. It is a deeply spiritual and religious film, and those who are not interested in may not find it as enjoyable or meaningful.

For those who are open to exploring faith and spirituality, however, I highly recommend giving "Kantara" a chance. It is a truly inspiring and thought-provoking film that will leave a lasting impression on anyone who watches it.

There are many such legends in this country which can be showcased in a proper way when done well like this.

    Most over rated trash
There was nothing special about this movie , it was so predictable and full of overacting. Overhyped movie , I find it boring . Will not recommend to anyone don't waste ur time .this movie is similar to other south Indian movies , nothing new , rubbishy executed. I don't know why they have added stupid songs in the movie . Why does this movie hold such a high rating on imdb, people are going nuts over this movie , I think just to boycott Bollywood people are high rating such kind of movies . I waited for 40 minutes to see something new but I was disappointed. Big no for this movie from my side , below average my rating 2/10.
