Challengers

Tennis player turned coach Tashi has taken her husband, Art, and transformed him into a world-famous Grand Slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she signs him up for a "Challenger" event — close to the lowest level of pro tournament — where he finds himself standing across the net from his former best friend and Tashi's former boyfriend.

    Brilliant fun!
This movie is fascinating to watch the power play between three people from teens into adulthood. Incredible cinematography and angles which were a joy to see in the final tennis match. Made me feel like I was there. Zendaya is superb and this was a gritty character to play, that she executes well as a strong woman who is faced with her career being over after an injury. The two male actors were believable and although one career carried on successfully the other man hasn't had the best life and struggles. When they all meet up again for a major match it combines a lot of emotions for a final win.

This is highly enjoyable to watch and great fun to watch.

"Challengers" (2024) is a straight-up must-watch! Zendaya kills it as the lead, bringing her A-game with some mad skills both on and off the court. The film's got a dope mix of drama, romance, and sports action that'll keep you hooked. The storyline is solid, with some twists that'll catch you off guard. The cinematography is on point, making the tennis scenes super intense and visually stunning.

If you're into sports dramas with a bit of a love triangle and some serious character development, "Challengers" is your jam. Props to the director for keeping the pace tight and the emotions real. Definitely worth a watch-don't sleep on this one!

    Alright, let's talk about "Challengers"
    **Film Review: Challengers (2024)**

Alright, let's talk about "Challengers" - the latest flick that hit the screens in 2024. This movie is a straight-up banger, with a vibe that's both chill and intense. Directed by the ever-talented Luca Guadagnino, it's a masterclass in blending drama, romance, and sport.

So, we've got Zendaya playing Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach. She's as fierce as they come, and Zendaya nails the role with a performance that's pure fire. The chemistry she shares with Mike Faist and Josh O'Connor is off the charts. These dudes play Patrick and Art, her past and present flames, and their dynamic is just wild.

The storyline is all about passion, rivalry, and the game of tennis - but it's way more than just a sports movie. It's got layers, you know? The tension on and off the court keeps you hooked, and the way it explores relationships is pretty deep.

The cinematography is slick, capturing the energy of the matches and the emotion of the characters. Plus, the soundtrack is on point, giving the whole movie a cool, modern edge.

Overall, "Challengers" is a must-watch. It's got heart, it's got drama, and it's got some seriously intense tennis action. Whether you're into sports or just love a good story, this film won't disappoint. So grab your popcorn, sit back, and enjoy the ride.

May be ok if you are tennis/Zendaya superfan
If you are looking for a good tennis movie there are many better.

Annoying timeline - the movie hopped around. Okay maybe "volleyed" around but easy to follow based on Z's haircut. To me this device is the hallmark of a movie with no plot and this is a great example of that theory. No plot, no moral, slight bromance/romance. Uninspired gratuitous sex scenes unless you think sex=love.

Characters - There was little character development - just enough to show each of the leads had some pluses and minuses. The parents and daughter were utterly superfluous and the movie would have been exactly the same without them; weirdly they were mostly shuffling around the hotel.

Match finale - utterly unrealistic with dizzying shots - wonder how many go-pros they smashed by taping them to tennis balls. Tennis from the perspective of the battered balls? So many gimmick shots.

Trailer- this is a lesson in deceptive trailers. I think people went thinking it was going to be some kind of sexy threesome situation. The other rule they could have broken was showing all the best parts, but there weren't any unless they sampled the crazy camera shots or the excessive product placement.

Ironic(?) shameless(?) product placement- is this a comment on the commercialization of sports or a desperate attempt to recoup production costs? The movie hammers you with marketing.
