AgentPhoenixxx - 21 May 2024 Hilarious but forgettable. Haunted Mansion is a comedy/light horror about a mother and her son recruiting a large cast to escape from the mansion. It's based on the theme park ride of the same name and does enough to be worthy of the name but it isn't anything particularly special.
It has a Stellar cast, which is easily the strongest part of the film. The CGI is good and it has colorful tones that give it a unique vibe. The story is interesting but quite forgettable.
There are a few pacing issues and the editing cuts scenes to the next too quickly. It's worth noting that Haunted Mansion hardly qualifies as a horror movie, don't expect to be on the edge of your seat. It's more accurate to call it a comedy with a horror backdrop. The setting is suitably spooky and some ghosts are rather unsightly, but the presentation isn't enough to truly feel the stakes.
Haunted mansion makes up for it's shortcomings with good character arcs and hilarious dialogue. Overall it's a suitably eerie and fun Halloween movie, great for families who want to introduce their kids to a mild horror.
exceladeogun - 20 February 2024 Could have been funnier, scarier, and shorter Haunted Mansion
In this supernatural horror comedy, Gabbie and her son, Travis, move into a new house that's haunted. Their quest to banish these spirits leads them to assemble an unconventional team including an astrophysicist and paranormal guide, a priest, a history professor, and a psychic medium. Through their encounters with the supernatural, Haunted Mansion dances around grief, exploring how it impacts people and influences their decisions.
This movie is haunted by many issues. The runtime here is arduous and even made more visible with pacing issues. The visual effects and CGI are very perplexing and subpar.
Being a comedy horror and probably with its target audience, Haunted Mansion isn't as scary as it should be. The main villain here is missing for most of the movie, and when he's finally shown, his impact isn't felt. Haunted Mansion also suffers from a bad case of exposition, we're taken from one back story to another which ends up making the plot convoluted.
The performances here are the best thing about this movie, although hindered by the script, the star-studded cast manages to make it tolerable. The emotional scenes are also handled well, and Tiffany Haddish as always is a comedic star.
Haunted Mansion ends as a movie that could have been funnier, scarier, and shorter.
5.5/10.
smoon-37789 - 19 December 2023 when is the last time Disney wrote a good movie? So I wasn't really a fan of the first 'The Haunted Mansion" I mean it was ok but this movie made me appreciate the Eddie Murphy movie so much more. What is the last good Disney movie written? It sure isn't this one. Now don't get me wrong, the underlying message of grief was great BUT i struggled watching this movie till the end. The graphics were great - the story telling a bit rushed - the casting was .. good BUT not really a fan of LaKeith as Ben (his dialect most of the movie was frustrating - could barely hear him).
The best scene in the movie was when they were looking for Crump's personal belonging at his other residence - it seemed the director just did whatever they wanted to do with the ghosts and to me did wayyy too much (mummies? Multiple headless people? Etc) at times it would have made sense if the instead of house being haunted they led the viewer to believe they were in another world.
Just not crazy about this movie and honestly just watch the original for a better story and better "ghost" writing.
