farissawan - 24 June 2024 Masterpiece This movie embedded batman's character and setting to an incredible extent, as Gotham city was depicted as dark and miserable, and it involves the batman diving into having a detective role which separates himself in comparison to all of thr other batman's. It is also important to highlight that this movie displayed a form of realism between characters such as the riddler and batman, as batman was still new at becoming the dark knight and therefore wasn't as advanced in his weaponry compared to the regular batman we see in other stories, as well as the fact that riddler was also extremely well written and very different than what we expected, overall exceeded my expectations and the perfect beginning to future batman movies.
peter-46978 - 30 May 2024 I Don't Even Like Batman But I Liked This First of all, the music that they play whenever "The Batman" appears is awesome and sort of hypes you up. It's a lot like the Empire theme whenever Darth Vader shows up. Especially when his final fight scene starts, it was just so cool. I hope they keep this music and motif of an "entry theme" in the next movies.
So I'm not necessarily a fan of Batman, but this was a very good movie, more like a dark crime thriller than anything else. He didn't even seem like Batman as we've seen before, you kind of even forget he's in a costume because he mostly seemed like a guy trying to solve a criminal conspiracy.
Robert Pattinson pulled of a totally unhinged Bruce Wayne. Jeremy Wright was great as a perpetually bewildered Jim Gordon (necessary for The Batman to have a character to explain things to, since there's no Robin yet). Colin Farrell did a much more interesting portrayal of The Penguin as a deformed mafia soldier.
bafflingbarnacles - 19 May 2024 One of the worst superhero movies of all time How this movie was accepted, especially for its three hour DRAGGED out length, is astounding. The fact people are upvoting this monstrosity gives me no hope of the film industry ever being good again. This is definitely the worst superhero rendition ever made. You know the lead actor is trash when his supporting actors blow him out of the water by miles in every single aspect of the dragged out mess.
I don't get anyone could be hyped for a follow up as you are literally going to sit in a dark, comatose theater and listen to tween minded adult woman get off to the fact their sparkling vampire was casted in this mess.
bosullivan2-719-143250 - 11 January 2023 The Batman we thought we needed I've a new found appreciation for the Chris Nolan Batman movies. I've always enjoyed them but now I admire more their ability to balance raw grittiness with cheesy comic book fun.
The new Batman movie takes itself way too seriously without been serious enough. Not taking its characters seriously. Alfred. Bruce Wayne. Carmine Falcone. All under developed. Batman, Gordan, catwoman and Riddler are good. But rest of cast may as well be cardboard cutouts.
It feels like the movie Seven. But never ventures down what makes Seven incredible. So you find yourself wishing you were watching Seven instead.
The style of storytelling is painful at times. Too much of the plot is told through overly long exposition dumps at the Bat signal roof top and overly convenient voice messages. Thrillers rely on this style of storytelling to find out the characters motives, history and who'd done it but it's executed poorly here.
If you're going to do an R-Rated Batman Detective movie then do an R-Rated Dedective movie. Don't chicken out. Show us the SAW like killings. And brutal deaths. If you're not then show us an exciting Batman movie. With a powerful movie score.
Unfortunately the new Batman movie does neither. Just about makes it over the finish line way too late with a whimper. Don't get me wrong, there's flashes of brilliance. But before you know it the scene is over and you're back to broodying boring Batman.
antoniotambornino - 7 January 2023 Easily Worth Seeing At Least Once This movie is dark, even gritty, without being as difficult to watch. It also doesn't feel drawn out. Some movies try to cram substance and style with up to 8 main characters in a slot of just under 3 hours.
The Batman glosses over origin stories and introductions to allow all the characters shown to exist in this piece while keeping things grounded and gritty. This is a smart move considering many people are now familiar with the majority of the characters given the most screen time, and considering how the more recent Justice League movies decided to give more time than necessary to showing us moments that didn't really need rehashing. For whatever reason, Zack Snyder decided to keep in the final film watching Bruce Wayne lose his parents. Perhaps he felt there an emotional stick there.
The cast isn't as memorable in this piece as actors from previous entrees are, and perhaps the biggest reason for that is Robert Pattinson. Though his task for half this film is to merely stand somewhere, he still commands a strong presence. To Pattinson's credit his performance is neither campy nor overplayed. While wearing the cowl he manages to portray an intense character well. While out of the cowl, it's not hard to see how some think he simply looked too pretty for someone meant to fill the lead role in a movie that's supposed to be part crime thriller.
The biggest surprise casting wise was Colin Ferrell. He somehow disappears behind the fat, balding and scarred Penguin.
Michael Giacchino's score isn't as memorable as other works he's done, but his music helps maintain the tone without giving the film a rushed or panicky feeling.
The Batman manages to give nods the Dark Knight trilogy, to Batman: The Animated Series, as well as to Hitchcock films, and deservedly so. There's suspense in almost every scene, without being overly gripping.
What may be a disappointment to some is the lack of the whimsical nature that came packed in the Adam West show, and the earlier Batman and Friends animated series. Sorry folks, The Batman, this time around, isn't a parody.
parbjorkman-92443 - 3 January 2023 Stay for the scenery and just smudge out Pattison The idea with this movie was to reinvent the Batman universe. And for sure, this is a whole new kind of story to Batman.
Is it better? Worse?
Cant really tell or judge.
Mostly has this to do with the poor choice of main actor to portrait Batman.
If I am to be less harsh, Pattison is just booring and less espressive than Nic Cage. And we all know how little you can read out of that mans face, in or out of character.
Also, the sad use of CGI for both Catwoman and Batman fight scenes (it's just animated scenes from a game, but with a bit heavier budget.
If you expect to see a movie and gain a new love for the DC universe .... this movie - in my opinion - should NOT be a part of you time.
I give this a 2 star rating ONLY thanks to some good enviroment, camera and scene ideas (sadly many ruined by a horrible uninspired Robert P staggering across as if he wore a medieval iron armour that had rusted in it's hinges.
And the attempts to make Batman accepted by the law .. by opening interacting with police, federal agents and alike, without anyone noticing - very much - just makes this story a laugingstock for the true Batman-fan. The dark vigilante should NOT be a masked Sherlock Holmes with the romantic or emotional expression as a Baobab nut.
Other actors gets very little chance to show off their acting, and mostly I suspect they just do their best to ignore the facts that they are not just rehearsing but really doing the scenes for the movie.
dangordon-59746 - 30 December 2022 Pretentious clap trap I must be missing something. This is an attempt at making art house superhero movie. It ends up being a poorly lit, over acted melodrama with poor sense of pace or story. The tropes for which there are multiple are tired and signposted from a distance. Andy Serkiss is wasted. The action set pieces are so difficult to see due to the noir style lighting that they are lost. This is combined with ponderous movements that just make you want laugh.finally there is the run time. This is far to long, even if it were a decent t movie.
This is not a patch on the Nolan era, but desperately thinks it's superior.
dragos-87152 - 25 December 2022 Failed experiment I love when big budget movies take some risks and try to be different, but the minds behind this failed experiment, mostly took bad decisions, that completely ruined my viewing experience.
No.1: terrible casting choices on the two main characters: Bat and Riddler. Actually, Pattison could have been better as the Riddler... Dano's overacting is very annoying, especially towards the end (he tries to replicate his character from "There will be Blood", but fails miserably) .
No.2: Soundtrack: "the composer" literally reworks the Imperial March (Darth Vader's theme) as Batman's theme and Ave Maria as Riddler's theme. I was extremely distracted and infuriated, by this rippoff, this lack of creative inspiration, as both themes are overused throughout the movie.
No.3: Fight scenes: I get it, it is more a detective movie, but, it is still a Batman movie, come one guys, really, I've seen way better fights and action in tv series...
The length of the film, the big name actors and the budget are poorly managed.
5 out of 10 starts, because of the hard work of the other people involved, but I hope this experiment is done and the project will be passed to more competent directors, composers, editors, fight choreographers.
dolllee-47119 - 23 December 2022 2022 Batman Review I love the riddler. <3

sal_sss - 18 December 2022 White man bad! As if collin powell and condoleezza rice didn't lie in font of the whole world to start a war that ended two million lives.
As if obama didn't bomb seven different countries.
Only "corrupt white men" in gotham huh?
Hollywood is driving itself to the bottom of the cliff insisting on its propaganda agenda and being a tool of political interests and the CIA.
The whole world is sick of the brainwashed american ignorant culture spreading lies all the time from all media channels possible.
It is a sad role for the industry to play when it could be doing so much good.
At least there was no russia mongering or some other country evil involved. That's a big positive step though.
