Protagonist Created by Someone Who Lives in a Safe World
There is not any character development, as the protagonist's internal challenges remain unchanged throughout the plot. External factors change, but evidently have not a single effect on her internal development - which again, is non-existent. The antagonist is so much more relatable, we wish the story revolved around him instead. It is obvious this story was written by someone who has never experienced war, as we watch the protagonist, who supposedly has been living in an extremely dangerous world, make a mistake after another due to an apparent lack of experience in, well, a dangerous world. Mistakes are expected at the beginning of a story, but through character development, we should see an improvement. We're still waiting for it when the credits roll in. The ending is like a pebble that hits frozen water, unable to create any ripple and disappears out of frame a few bounces later.

    Very enjoyable
I liked this movie a lot. The world building is top notch, and really steps up the creativity of what engineered biological lifeforms might look and act like in the distant future. Where it falls short for me is this: they built a seemingly expansive and gorgeous world, yet the handful of locations that it all takes place in feel a bit underwhelming by the end. I really wanted to see the citadel. Don't get me wrong, they did a fantastic job with what they gave us. That's why I believe this movie deserves an 8/10. Leaving me wanting more is far preferable over feeling like they never gave enough. Although they tied up the storyline nicely by its completion, here's hoping that they give us a 2nd installment!

Very interesting start of a series,
Loved the movie, the story, the atmosphere, the dystopian world created. Good acting, story well delivered and accompanied by some amazing mesmerising soundtrack. However, at the end of the movie I felt the story was in fact just getting started... I have more questions then answers, a lot of things, characters, worlds and storyline have been introduced, but I still have no idea what they mean, where they lead to, what's coming next. So this movie was amazing, but just as an introduction to this world, to this story... where is the rest of it?? Will there be a part 2? Will questions ever be answered? I don't know...

    Imaginative Dystopian Story
This movie was produced outside of Hollywood...and it shows. Unlike recent Hollywood mind-numbingly boring movies, this movie makes excellent work of creative ideas and solid, beautiful special effects. This is not a masterpiece by any means, but it really does highlight how well a good idea can manifest into an entertaining, thought-provoking story. I find the characters quite believable and the dialogue genuine. The plot moves along at a slow pace but we're meant to "feel" the characters as they progress through the scenes. The movie is meant to tell a story without trying to push any social agendas that so often ruin stories. I find it so refreshing to actually have a story told without the constant nuisance of social agendas pushed in your face.

    Intricate Biopunk
Literary science-fiction in the narrow sense, that is, set in the future and relying on science-based speculation, has undergone a renaissance in the past few decades. Unfortunately, film has not yet followed: to a large extent SF films are either big-budgets bonanza playing it safe (sticking to tried-and-true formulas: Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars, even, in a sense, Dune), or riskier ventures lacking the budget to match their ambitions.

Vesper stands out here, with a fairly original ('bio-punk') world-building, where electronics are largely replaced by synthetic biology, as well as an art and FX team with enough budget and knowledge to make the best out of this premise.

The result is a visually stunning film, mixing gritty post-apocalyptic/neofeudal elements with the beauty of speculative biology (à la Extinction), and a range of technologies bridging the gap. The setting is well served by a small but very good cast (special mention for the lead Raffiella Chapman, who brilliantly balances dangerous dreams and disillusioned practicality).

While the script is good, and builds complex dynamics among its characters, the scenario itself is lacking. Another reviewer on here wrote 'enough worldbuilding to fill a tv series, but not enough plot to fill a movie', and I couldn't put it better, though the setting itself was enough to satisfy me more than them.

One of the worst movies I have ever watched
If you want to watch a useless & meaningless movie, you can watch Vesper, thats all I have to say. I am sorry for myself that I wasted time to watch this so-called movie. This movie does start and end without delivering any message to the viewer. I was trying to understand what it was conveying but literally nothing was making any sense. Hopeing that by the end it will enlighten with some more information about a reality called citadel, but still nothing. There are some weird plants, some weird people, some weird creatures and nothing more. How in the world do you even creeate some plants that will fire bullets at you in case you touch them!

    Dull
Well that's two hours of my life wasted. I went in open minded, but came out yawning. Very slow pace, crap dialog, intrusive score and no back story whatsoever and in my humble opinion, one of the worst Sci fi films of the last decade plus, and that's being kind. Some of it probably went over my head as I was happy to be distracted by other people. I have to write another two hundred characters to submit a review, and sat here wondering if I could just quote the late, great Rik Mayal and say "bored bored bored" but I doubt that would cut it, so have to think of something else. Nope, sorry. I'm out!
