    Shockingly Bad! Not Agatha Christie
As great admirers of Agatha Christie and very hopeful that with Kenneth Branagh behind this adaptation, but when my wife and I curled up with a pizza and watched this movie we were both completely amazed at how bad it was.

I'm not going to spoiler this movie but we both found it completely lacked that careful tightness that made Agatha Christie so marvelous. Things were tossed in as red herrings over and over for shock value or to surprise us. Everything was so obvious that very early we knew the killer, method and motive of the first killing AND reasons why the whole thing would have fallen apart then with the most basic autopsy.

We then got the original book Hallowe'en Party and were SHOCKED at the lack of resemblance to Agatha Christie's work. Admittedly Hallowe'en Party was written at the end of the great mistress of mystery's career and was not up to her earlier standards of tight, but YEEKS the adapted plot was terrible.

We were also disappointed with the casting. It's an odd note, but they made quite a big thing in the beginning about the psychic who was the last person prosecuted over the witch act of 1735 . The actress didn't sound or look English at all - we both thought she sounded Japanese. I am sorry, but that was such a jarring note SO early.

    Dark is not Edgy
Ugh why so dark? I came here for a cheeky little whodunit, but this third installment apparently got the Prisoner of Azkaban treatment, complete with unnecessarily dark plot and image quality. There is already a whole triller/suspense category, let us enjoy our fun little mysteries in peace.

I hope this isn't the end of mainstream Agatha Christie adaptations. The source material, and especially Hercules Poirot, has so much potential! In may ways, Poirot is a parody of sleuth detectives and I'm tired of seeing him being reduced to a serious character. Let his unique characteristics and quirks shine!

    Enjoyable movie
I like watching horror nowadays, and this one was horror with a mystery, and like any Poirot book/movies of course this too will come with a twist. I enjoyed the movie but unfortunately I guessed the twist too early. I did not guest the second twist, however, there were clear signs of what it was (if you watched the movie you'll know the "little detail" that I mean). I won't be saying spoilers here because I think for movies like this, it should be watched head on. The trailer also didn't give much away which was nice. Overall, the movie is enjoyable, it wasn't mind blowing but worth it if your are a mystery buff or even a horror buff.
