Love story with godzilla on the background
It's a human story with godzilla as a character. Loved the love story and the emotions of all the characters. Though the climax was a bit expected as we get closer but it was a deserved end.

Each character had played their part. It was a foreign film to start but later you live in the movie. Every single detail was important even the floating dead fish has been verified.

World War from japanese perspective. It hasn't offended anyone but still managed to mix history with fantasy and with fantastic story telling.

Need more of human value and emotions in the monsterverse not just monsters

    Love wins godzilla minus one.

    An absolute MUST see
You are on the side of humanity and not rooting for Godzilla. As opposed to today's modern Godzilla who is apart of maintaining some sort of balance between man and ecosystem; leaving viewers torn. Don't get it twisted, I'm 36 and have been on his team since Roland Emmerich's 1998 rendition. Godzilla is an animal defending its territory in the absence of a corny vendetta. Many plot layers but yet so simplistic. A rich moving performance by the protagonist and all around wonderfully casted. Beautifully shot, true to its origins. Familiar scenes from prior films, were easily recognizable and heart warming. Love, hope and terror are the primary tones of the movie and not dripping with puns to disguise its ineptitude. It's heart breaking, eye opening, and had me crying at the edge of my seat From the beginning.

    My first proper Godzilla movie.
I've seen the Hollywood ones, and they're good. Even the terrible one is better than it's given credit for. This, though. This is on a whole different level. I know now why Godzilla has the reputation he has, and I'm gonna have to track down more.

The story is VERY good, the casting is great, the effects...everything is excellent. It absolutely deserves the Academy Award it won, and hopefully this paves the way for more consideration (and awards) for future Godzilla movies.

Honestly, I'm kicking myself that it took me this long to watch a proper Godzilla movie, it was that good. I especially loved the actual main story of Koichi Shikishima, Noriko Oishi, and baby Akiko.

    Godzilla Minus One.
    Gojira -1.0.

Post-war Japan is at its lowest point when a new crisis emerges in the form of a giant monster, baptized in the horrific power of the atomic bomb.

Godzilla Minus One is my first experience with a Godzilla movie, I still know so little about it but it was totally worth it.

I was surprised how good this movie is, it's beautifully made, interesting from its early beginning and absolutely well executed, technically wise it is probably the best of the year, so the Oscar win was well deserved !

It's not about technicalities only, the movie has so many great aspects, especially the drama and the little cute family thing, I loved it, it was heartbreaking and sometimes a joy to watch.

    Glad I watched it.

A CRAZY movie that makes an entire MonsterVerse
This "Godzilla: Minus One" is simply an absurd film for many reasons, first of all the plot that is something touching to the nth degree, very dramatic and very very well interpreted by actors that Hollywood can just dream of. The soundtrack is AMAZING, taken from the original of the very first Godzilla, and I must say that there were moments when I really got goosebumps. In particular there was a wonderful choice of using the timing of the soundtrack in order to make the fighting scenes much more anxious and that above all convey a sense of weakness in front of a colossal monster. The visual effects are masterful, they have had a really delicate and precise attention to detail (something that nowadays is missing in many films even of large movie houses), Godzilla follows the classic style, which makes it much more disturbing in comparison to Godzilla "American" that we have been administered in recent years. Nothing to take away from the Godzilla of 2014 because anyway I think it's a good movie that you watch, but this Godzilla here I would see another 100 times and I would never get bored. If they asked me at the cinema if I want to go see "Godzilla" from 2014 or "Godzilla - Minus One" I would choose the second option with my eyes closed. In fact, only this film is GREATER than the entire MonsterVerse and I think that from today the expectations on this kind of film will increase for the audience, which could create problems in WarnerBros. Finally, I recommend everyone to see this film because it is as if it were a "turning point" for this kind of film that has been often and willingly underestimated.
