    Don't waste your time
Read on Wikipedia or watch a documentary. Not even Jessica Chastain could save this one. Horribly slow. Pacing awful. No suspense.

I rarely give a 4. I love movies. Even ones rated around 5 I always think they deserve better. Not this one. I want my two hours back.

Eddie Redmayne tries to be Hannibal Lecter but is far from it. Predictable story line. I thought it was gonna have a twist ending. Nope.

Best part for me is when the credits roled. And the movie like the nurse put me out of my misery.

I love Chastain. Everything she is in. She is the only thing mildly good thing about this flick. Netflix at its worse. Not even Jessica Chastain could save this. She had zero to work with. ZERO.

    Just an okay movie
This is a true story so judging the storyline will be wrong. However; the ending was a bit flat. I expected better or more cuz they had a good plot.

But as already said, it's a true story so there isn't much they can do.

It's just a simple story, nothing exceptional. Falls flat, a bit boring. Predictable.

I think the only interesting thing is when you are not given any answer for why the Cullen character did what he did. That's the only thought this movie leaves you with.

It's generally just an okay movie. You will enjoy it but don't expect any mindblowing acting or turn of events or anything.

Great performances in a hard-to-fathom film
Some movies demand that you detach your logic and check it at the door before watching. Mostly sci-fi, like accepting we can go to Pluto or grow dinosaurs in a lab. You need to accept the premise, in order to get to the story. How strange it is to feel this way about a "based on true story" medical drama. What happens here is almost inconceivable, and it's hard to clearly process a (somewhat) fact-based film when you can't fathom the story as viable. I bumped my review from a 6 to a 7 because you can't blame the film for telling a story that shouldn't be possible to exist. So, I'll stick to the movie and check my indignation at the door.

Chastain, as always, is brilliant, as is Redmayne. The story is slow, and lacks the drama and urgency you'd expect it to have. It's well done, but it drags, and the resolution is unrewarding... we know the truth, and don't really WANT them to add drama that wasn't real, do we? Maybe the story would've been better told as a documentary than a feature film? An expose' of hospital insurance and risk-management policy. In short, it's a decent effort that didn't captivate me... maybe because believing this story actually happened is as hard to digest as going to Pluto. And Pluto would have been more fun to watch.

    Much better than the book
I was surprised a decent movie was made from this book. I hated the book! Credit goes mainly to the acting of Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain.. I'm sure a lot of credit also goes to the script writer who adapted the book and the director. This is based on a true story which always makes a movie or book more interesting. It will surely give you pause if you ever need to go in the hospital! Sometimes that is unavoidable but the loss of control you experience is scary enough, plus in this case you have a psychopath nurse. The fact that hospitals were covering it up and passing him along to other facilities to avoid a lawsuit is unconscionable.

The subject is great, predictible plot and hard to watch.
    • The concept is great, based on a true story but easily predictable even without even knowing the actual events.

    • The part that made it hard to watch is the color grading, it was way too dark, some scenes is like begin in a hospital with he lights off. Completely unrealistic.

    • The grading is the main thing that really made me loose interest in the movie, followed by the unnecessary scenes that were obvious fillers.

    • Besides that, I think the movie didn't do enough emphasis on the significance and actual situation of the medical industry. Only some text at the end.... enough? To me it was a waste of a great opportunity to get away from the heavy drama and expose everything around the whole situation more fearlessly.

    • I'm keeping this review as short as possible.

    "THE GOOD NURSE" REVIEW
Directed by Tobias Lindholm. A runtime of two hours and one minute. Streaming on Netflix with an R rating. This is a film adaptation of the real serial killer "Charlie Cullen". It Starring Eddie Redmayne who you might remember from "Fantastic Beast". He plays "Charlie Cullen" a New Jersey nurse that was a serial killer.

Also stars Jessica Chastain as "Amy Loughren". "Amy" a nurse who was going through severe health issues and worked closely with "Charlie" helped build the case against him.

You watch as "Amy" who thought "Charlie" was a dear friend, figures out the harsh truth about him. It all started when "Linda Garran" played by Kim Dickens was forced to bring in the police because of an odd death in the ICU.

Detectives "Tim Braun" played by Noah Emmerich and once NFL's elite cornerback turned actor Nnamdi Asomugha playing "Danny Baldwin". With their Captain "Sam Johnson" played by Malik Yoba overseeing them. Along with the help from "Amy", they took down this monster.

"The Good Nurse" really hit home. I've been to some of these Hospitals "Charlie" worked at in a Sickle Cell crisis. That just makes you count your blessings even more. They're some sick people out there in the world.

"Charlie Cullen" is a walking contradiction. He went to school to become a tool that helps save lives, just to use creative ways to take them. He abused a broken healthcare system. Rather than getting the police involved or handling this situation. Hospitals let countless people die.

It reminded me of "Five Days at Memorial". Some things were different. But it shows how hospitals added or created a hostile environment. That just happened to be taken advantage of.

This had Jessica Chastain in it. Enough said. She doesn't act unless she's giving an Oscar-worthy performance. With this topic, someone like her starring in it is needed.

The film had a great balance of seasoned actors. I still see the Eagles/Raiders cornerback when I see Nnamdi. His acting is getting so good though I'm starting to forget he was once an NFL player. Keep it up.

Even the children Devyn McDowell and Alix West Lefler playing "Maya and Alex Loughren" added to the overall film. The acting was great because a couple of times I wanted to yell at the kids.

Really good film. With great actors part of it. I'm thankful whether fluke or not. "Charlie" eventually got caught. He's confirmed twenty-nine deaths. But it's said it could be hundreds. Just sickening. It's not "Dahmer" but it's another serial killer Netflix did a great job depicting and bringing to the screen. I give this film four mor fires 🔥🔥🔥🔥 #CosmoandtheMovieWithin #CosmoMovieBlog #CosmoLanier #TheGoodNurse.

    Believable, unsettling true life drama
STAR RATING: ***** Brilliant **** Very Good *** Okay ** Poor * Awful

Amy Loughren (Jessica Chastain) was a nurse and single mother, who worked on an ICU ward and was diagnosed with a heart condition that would have a big impact on her life. In the midst of her crisis, when the pressures of her work and home life took their toll on her, she meets Charlie Cullen (Eddie Redmayne), who became a good friend in her work and personal life, but an unexplained number of deaths on his watch began to arouse Amy's suspicions, leading to a prolonged police investigation before Cullen's arrest in 2003, and subsequent conviction for a series of murders.

Any one of us could fall ill at any moment, and require treatment at a hospital. Here, where we are unable to care for ourselves, it is truly shocking how much power medical professionals take over us, being granted virtually the power of God over our very being, and thankfully most of them are caring, dependable and reliable. But what a terrifying turn of events it must be when an untrustworthy and twisted individual slips through the cracks. The ongoing trial of nurse Lucy Letby here in the UK is a terrifying testament to this, and even if there's no conviction, just the prospect is scary enough. This drama documents a true life tale of such a case happening, on a grander scale than anyone could have imagined.

Avoiding sensationalism, director Tobias Lindholm suitably opts for a realist approach in the early stages, shooting events in subdued dull, grey lighting that adds to the suppressive, sombre tone that the opening seeks to establish. It does veer off in to theatrics in the second act, playing out more like a standard Hollywood psycho thriller, but compensates with a sensitive, human conclusion, where our protagonist overcomes individual revulsion to offer the chance of redemption. The believable, probing central performances of Redmayne and Chastain add to this immeasurably, creating an unsettlingly believable friendship that sparks up from circumstance.

Uneasy viewing, for sure, but a scarily authentic feeling dramatisation, showcasing not just the horrors of when clinical trust is abused, but the horrifying corruption of institutions in covering up their incompetence and dereliction of duty. ****
