kimberoshea - 22 May 2024 Casting all wrong! I am perplexed as to why they would cast a 55 year old Nicole Kidman to play a 40 year old Lucile Ball? Not sure what they did to Nicole's face to try to achieve this look, but it was very distracting. Lucile Ball was a beautiful woman, as is Kidman in her natural state. This movie made both Lucy and Nicole homely. Then they choose a 35 year old to play Vivian Vance. Does everyone not see the incongruity? And honestly, I don't understand why an actor such as Nicole would accept a role not suited to her age. Same with Javier Barden- too old for the roll. In a nutshell: I think Desi and Lucy would be deeply offended by the actors chosen to represent their younger selves.
CommonSenseCritic - 7 July 2023 Being the Ricardos Common Sense Review This was a film that when it was announced I was immediately intrigued by. I grew watching I Love Lucy re-runs and loved the characters, and to be offered the opportunity to select those people again was something I became excited about. This film was not what I was expecting it to be, not in a good or bad way, but just different. Both Kidman and Bardem completely embodied their characters and I wouldn't be surprised to see some awards in their future. The story is very long, and at times unnecessarily confusing, but that's something I've come to expect with any Aaron Sorkin film as they tend to be long-winded. Beautiful set and production design help to transport one back to the Golden Age of Hollywood. Overall a good film, if a bit a long and confusing at times, but worth at least one watch.
What were your thoughts on the film?
tkdlifemagazine - 21 January 2023 I Love Lucy and Ricky This is quite a well written, and well Directed biopic about The Ricardos, America's favorite television couple for decades. Sorkin's writing and Direction is always precise and on point. The story is interesting because it tells some of the ugliness of the relationship, the industry, and the times. Javier Bardeen and Nicole Kidman are very good in the lead roles. The entire cast is very good. The cinematography and set design are top notch. J. K. Simmons is one of the highlights of the movie. He is terrific as William Frawley aka Fred Mertz. Sorkin does a great job of weaving current social and political themes into historic works of art. The political issues highlighted in this look at the 1950's is not incidental, or accidental. This is very good. If you Love Lucy you may want to add a star, but you want to delete a star for taking you behind the curtain.
decimatorcortez - 20 August 2022 vile, vulgar, unprofessional Let's say this movie was accurate. Lucy was a vile, vulgar, and unprofessional player. She deserved every bit of misery in her life. Absolutely no reason to speak to people the way she did.
Let's say this movie was inaccurate. Lucy was portrayed in a vile, vulgar, and unprofessional manner.
For entertainment value, this movie sucked overall.
Fast forward to 1:49:00 and stop at 1:59:00 for the most moving and best part of this film.
bbosma-24403 - 29 May 2022 I loved this Lucy I hadn't expected much, but I thought this was an excellent movie, with a clever structure that allowed a much fuller story to be told, and great performances. Nicole Kidman really surprised me - I couldn't see her in this role, but she nailed it. She didn't really look like Lucy, but she felt like her, and most importantly, she didn't look, sound or feel like Nicole Kidman.
