    good animated sequal
Its been a while coming but the sequal to the origins of our favourite yellow fellas has brought the origin story of someone else. Minions the rise of gru shifts the focus now to young gru, who wants to be the greatest villian the world had ever known. The six are good villians each animated well and bring good secondary characters to the plot. This film probably could have been called despicable me rise of gru but never the less its a fun animated sequal whos main side plot is about an amulet that will give the six big power if used at the right time, overall minions the rise of gru is a good film and a good sequal.

This Movie Had No Business Being This Good
I watched this film recently, assuming it would just be something to joke about. Joking aside there was actually really good cinematography, I know most people wrote that as a joke, but the child abduction scene was so well filmed. That was also the only scene where I couldn't stop laughing! You could tell what was happening from a mile away but everything from the color grading, to the music, to the pacing, to the cinematography, to the voice acting, to the flipping amazing foley artistry hit home. Everyone who made this was actually succeeding at making a great film.

I rarely ever laugh in a film, but I laughed at least every two to four minutes. Actually good.

    GRU!
Minions: The Rise of Gru is a fun and enjoyable film for fans of the franchise. The movie tells the origin story of the infamous villain Gru, showcasing his rise to power with the assistance of the Minions. Minions: The Rise of Gru is a prequel to the Despicable Me franchise that tells the story of how a young Gru became a supervillain with the help of his loyal Minions. The film is set in the 1970s and features a lot of references and jokes to that era, such as disco music, kung fu movies, and Star Wars. The film also introduces a new group of villains called the Vicious 6, who are Gru's idols and rivals.

The voice acting by Steve Carell as Gru is spot on, bringing a perfect balance of humor and emotion to the character. The Minions, as always, are hilarious and steal the show with their silly antics.

The film was directed by Kyle Balda, co-directed by Brad Ableson and Jonathan del Val. It was produced by Chris Meledandri, Janet Healy, and Chris Renaud, written by Brian Lynch and Cinco Paul, edited by Claire Dodgson, and composed by Heitor Pereira, based on characters created by Sergio Pablos. The direction by Kyle Balda and Brad Ableson is strong, with visually stunning animation that brings the world of the Minions and Gru to life. The score and sound design are also well done, adding to the film's overall energy and excitement.

The production design is eye-catching, with vibrant colors and imaginative settings that will delight both children and adults. The special effects are impressive, making the action scenes thrilling and exciting.

The editing is smooth, maintaining a good pace throughout the film and allowing for plenty of comedic moments. The dialog is witty and will have both kids and adults laughing.

Minions: The Rise of Gru is a fun and entertaining movie that will delight fans of the franchise. While it may not be a groundbreaking film, it is sure to leave audiences feeling happy and entertained.

    Not bad, but nothing new
The sequel to a spin-off from a really great film, that brings a lot of energy and colour, but ends up just a bit better than the first "Minions" movie.

Where this film is better than its predecessor is the fact that Gru is a more integral part of the story. Getting a more complete origin story for other characters from the original Despicable Me film is also a nice bonus.

What annoyed me was the under utilisation of some of the actors used for the villains, none of them stood out from each other in a memorable way. That and the somewhat predictable nature of the story combined with the way too convenient way the newest minion gets back the "macguffin" needed to complete the story.

Easily Second Best in the Minion Franchise
The question we're left with is, does Illumination want to create a minion story for the next ten year old audience.... Or do they wish to retain fans that caused multiple shutdowns because of the mature members of society in their 13-18 year old wisdom dress like "Men In Black" and started acting like "minions gone purple", or "minions imprisoned" tossing bananas and causing public disturbances?

Can you continue for both possibly with young Gru films (although there was a continuity issue my only problem. Movie One Scarlet Overkill is 1968, the freeze Ray was on Demo at Vilicon Orlando and the movie finished with Gru Freezing a Scarlet Overkill and taking Elizabethz's Crown (RIP).

This film takes place in the bicentennial 1976(that's 8 years- that 1. Don't sync time wise with the first film not in age, or in terms of the cheese Ray vs Freeze Ray).

The "Despicable" scenes with proper parenting were definitely hysterical...the stink bomb at Jawa, taunting the cyclists at the gym with ice cream....and lair construction were just great. Alan Arkin's voice was great, "who's Don Rickles"? Was a bit depressing lol.

I can't see returning to the twin Dru and Gru with Lucy and the girls...that one was a stretch. Never been a particular fan of the "AVL" redemption theme... prefer the anti villain who doesn't cross the line vs Vector... But on a Franchise Scale I thought this was a well timed politically free hysterical family animated romp.

    Terrible
This movie was terrible. At this point, it's clearly a cash grab. The story was....well there was no storyline. Hard to follow. The movie was not funny at all. Not me for me, not for my child. If anything we were not amused and spent the time trying to follow the plot that was going nowhere.

Honestly, this being the third movie in the series, it's become obvious that this was just an opportunity to cash in some more on the franchise. I can guarantee that we won't waste our money on any 4th or 5th movie. Not sure why people like the Minions. What is the appeal? They aren't funny. The movies aren't funny or good. What's the deal?
