JonyVeana - 30 June 2024 It was ok An ok an average animated movie for little kids, they ruined the character of Garfield not gonna lie, as the number one fan of Garfield (i have the biggest Garfield memorabilia record over guiness) Pratt was an awful choice as our favorite lazy cat, he is a very energetic actor and that's the opposite of Garfield, he sounds just like Mario or the lego guy, the rest of the cast its very good specially L Jackson and the british actor from Ted Laso, overall the story us bad and the villains are pathetic and very much awful, the ending is anticlimactic and the dad of Garfield is pathetic and useless overall 5/10.
parkerbushong - 17 June 2024 Not as bad as people say I came inti this movie with low expectations but to my surprise it wasn't actually that bad. Granted it don't think it captured the essence of the original comic strip but even then it was entertaining. Was it really that Garfield related? No it wasn't. It instead felt like an adventure featuring Garfield. For a Garfield movie 5/10 but for a movie 7/10. It was entertaining but some parts felt plain stupid. It still was entertaining nonetheless. Was it a must watch? Of course not! Did I leave the movie theater satisfied? Indeed I did. It's wacky, it's fun, what more could you ask for? I feel like it's received unfairly negative reviews and deserves much better. A good movie to waste your time with.
cthirlby - 7 June 2024 Not bad at all. Just family fun Not even close to being bad as it's made out to be and I grew up with the old Garfield short films/shows and Bill Murray ones, it's different and it took a bit to get used to as I wasn't on board at first with Chris Pratt voicing him with a more charismatic voice rather than a deep moody voice and the overall tone of the film being quite heartfelt and family themed. It's a kids movie and times change, the story was really quite good and fast paced jumping right into the adventure and the relationship with Garfield and his dad is something fresh to the character and was quite a heartfelt plot. There are some good jokes in there but a few were cringe and bad but to be expected as it's a kids movie. Animation was pretty good too and looked really high quality. There is a villain to the film which is pretty weak but plays with the overall plot well enough. There is also a top gun scene in this which was pretty cool too I admit. Also Garfield as a kitten was absolutely adorable!!! Very much a family film that I had fun with being a fan as a kid and feelings nostalgic whilst also enjoying the fresh new modernised story and a few laughs along the way!
Mike_Devine - 2 June 2024 More like lasagna from Stouffers than Mama Leone's Going into 'The Garfield Movie,' the obvious should be stated - this is very much a "kids movie." There are plenty of reminders of this as the silliness gets underway shortly after the film starts. But there are still enough easter eggs scattered throughout these 101 minutes to make things interesting.
For starters, the cast runs the gamut, from Hollywood good guy Chris Pratt voicing the titular fat cat to Samuel L. Jackson lending his vocal talents to Garfield's deadbeat dad (and how about Cecily Strong's best take on a Frances McDormand accent as an unhinged security guard?). As with any animated film that's geared for a young audience, there are plenty of jokes and gags that appeal to parents/adults, which are helpful to anyone who watches this more or less against their will. (The multiple references to Tom Cruise are a bit much, though.)
In terms of the plot, it's thinner than a layer of lasagna, but that's to be expected. There's a total sense of "seen this before," even though this is the first time the famed comic strip star has made it to the big screen in nearly 20 years. But still, there are moments that pull at the heartstrings.
'The Garfield Movie' is pretty mediocre, but it's an okay distraction from reality.
