A good attempt from Gunn, but not nearly good enough.
The Suicide Squad is officially a flop now, and it's regrettable because this is one of the most entertaining superhero movies I've seen in a very long while. We don't have too many contenders, but suffice it to say that I think this is much better than the bland Black Widow, and it goes toe-to-toe with the Snyder Cut version of The Justice League. Compared to previous flops such as the shameful Wonder Woman 1984, this is the best Warner DC released in years.

DC should focus more on rated-R movies like this. Even though it's rated R, I didn't feel uncomfortable during the entire film. The gory sequences are not nearly as intense as those in any 10-year-old first-person shooter game. It's good enough for any modern teenager to consider just plain average.

James Gunn did it again. I like his cinematography style, the editing, and how he blends pop songs into his shots. Each shot feels like just out of a good music video. In terms of production value, this is the whole package.

Unfortunately, this movie fails further scrutiny. At this point, I hope people stop trying to make The Suicide Squad work on the big screen. A rag-tag team of dozens of people could work better in such a short amount of time. They need more time to breathe and for each individual story to grow. Every time, we get one or two characters with a proper arc, and everybody else serves as cannon fodder.

Harley Quinn is one example. I don't understand her character, her motivations, or what she is pursuing. Although she has some of the best and most memorable action sequences, they don't add anything to the overall story. They're just there for show.

Clearly, Gunn wants us to focus on Idris Elba's Bloodsport and a bit on John Cena's Peacemaker, and that's it. Even the Ratcatcher chick is nothing more than a gimmick, a plot device, with no proper arc. It's the same for the Polka Dot guy and the Nanaue Shark thing. They're just there as plot devices, so we never care an ounce about them.

Out of all the bunch, it's Peacemaker I want to see more of. Bloodsport spends the whole movie holding back, and when he finally breaks free, it's not much. They could've been perfect foils for one another, but halfway through the movie, they part ways, and when they converge, it's very unsatisfying.

This movie is good for the visuals, sound effects, and music alone, but better, tighter screenwriting would have helped. I don't get the point of the movie. It goes from nowhere to nowhere.

Shout out to Viola Davis' Amanda Waller. She is in her own league. It's, too. The movie needs to explore her character more, and she is being relegated to not much more than an exposition device. But the few scenes she's in, it's powerful stuff. I love it.

Overall, the movie is too long, most of the characters are not well used, the plot is fragile, and it isn't easy to be invested in the story or the characters. This means I enjoyed it mainly for the well-choreographed gore. And that's it.

ThisThis movie deserves a 5 out of 10 because of Gunn's stylist choices, but not much more.

Not as good as the first film
The gorgeous Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Viola Davis, John Cena & many others star in this film in which a government agent employs the ruthless skills of some imprisoned super villains on the promise of reduced sentences should they be mission successful when they are sent on a do or die mission into the jungle to destroy a laboratory. If you like violent anti hero films & you're into the D. C. franchise then you might like this so you should watch it if you haven't already but for me personally I didn't enjoy it as much as I did the first film starring Will Smith so I probably wouldn't watch it again.

Hilarious and Gory whilst having Deep Characters
One of my favourite superhero movies of all time. James Gunn manages to create a roster of one-off, stupid villains into deep, interesting and varied characters. Peacemaker and Bloodsport seem very similar at the start but he adapts them to being extremely contrasting. Each character feels like they have a purpose and reason to be in the film. The pacing is some of the best paces for a film I have seen. Every joke lands throughout the film and I think the comedy is brilliant. The cast is incredible, every actor plays their role perfectly and I wouldn't see many others playing their characters. Daniel Melchior is the stand out who pulls of a brilliant representation of Ratcatcher.

I really wanted to like this movie, but...
This movie has some great actors in it - Idris Elba, Peter Capaldi, and even Stallone providing his voice. But that's just not enough. The cheesy factor is just too high. You've got an anthropomorphic shark and an anthropomorphic weasel and a giant starfish from outer space. Then you have a guy who can remove his own arms and send them on ahead, floating through the air. Sorry, but there's only just so much suspension of disbelief I can muster.

John Cena should have stuck to wrestling, because he can't act. Fortunately, most of the bad actors in this movie died very early on, but unfortunately, Cena was a central character throughout the whole thing. And there was so much interaction between Cena and Idris Elba that it made Idris seem like a bad actor as well, because he had to come down to Cena's level. Daniela Melchior was one of the best actors in the movie, and she was only 24 years old, and had only been in 5 TV series and 2 movies before doing this one. And this was her first English-speaking role. Margot Robbie was still great as Harley Quinn, but the special effects they added in her fight scenes were ridiculous. And of course, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller still makes me want to hit her over the head with a golf club, but I can't fault Davis for that, since that's the effect her character is supposed to have on you.

All in all, this is one of those rare movies that I wish I could UN-watch.

Not a remake Not a reboot continuation
When I heard about this movie I was excited because I am a massive DC fan and I really enjoyed The 2016 Film so after watching this one I can tell you that this is not a reboot or a remake It's a continuation of The story and once again it's a very good film and I think this is better than the 2016 version but I still think That both films are very good and are worth watching the action It's very good the cast is solid there are some great surprises and the newcomers are good good especially John Cena and Israel Elva I highly recommend this film I hope they make another one sometime in the future.

What happened to Good vs Evil
This was Evil vs less competent Evil.

I used to love Superhero movies. Those heroes stood for something and they were trustworthy.

That's not true anymore and this movie is about is bad as I can ever remember seeing.

There was literally only one character that I thought might be a decent person - the archeologist, but she got demon possessed. Even her boyfriend Flag had little moral compass.

It has all the usual total death and destruction so many people will love it.

I watch this because I heard so much praise for it and I'm very sorry I did.
