bourbasted - 29 May 2024 Another sad one for Bob. Another cookie-cutter, average at best movie for a once-great actor.
The movie provides the occasional smile, but it doesn't require De Niro to deliver it. It seems a shame he is no longer taking roles that stretch his ability, as he took chances when he was young and provided some amazing cinematic moments. Unfortunately the days of 'Taxi Driver' Bob have long since gone.
To the casual observer. He has lost the plot on multiple fronts.
Some one let Bob know it's ok to say no to your agent every once in a while.
Sebastian Maniscalo does a reasonable job, but again, the plot is predictable and it really is just an excuse to eat popcorn at the end of the day. It's Meet the Fockers with a different name and some different actors. Old schtick.
kosmasp - 5 January 2024 Like father, like son (?) No pun intended - I actually thought about doing the Joey (waffa napoli I think he is calling it - which of course is him not knowing the real italian saying ... which you might know - I won't repeat it - and Joey from Friends in case you don't know whom I am talking about).
But enough of other Italian characters - that have nothing to do with this movie. If you like them or are big on family ... well you might like what you get served here. After playing Ben Stillers father in Meet the Fockers and all the sequels that spawned, he goes back to his roots - De Niro that is.
And I for one think this was a good choice. Not all jokes work, but you can tell the movie has its heart in the right place (which is not on the right - anatomy wise - tough to pin point or point out)! This really knows about tradition and while De Niro has been in better movies (and better roles) - but he still adds so much gravitas ... it really helps and elevates the movie. Especially towards the end ... really touching and gripping to say the least ... and with a great message.
BoBo_Goal32 - 8 October 2023 Meet the Italians It seems that for each reasonable film De Niro is participating in, he needs to participate in another three crappy ones. You should see it coming from thousand miles, when Scorsese Is casting him...oh no...then he can go wild for at least five of those and when he does - good old grumpy pops is getting out.
This one has a lot of elements that reminds the Fockers, just in reverse. The lead actor and writer is Sebastian Maniscalco and he is a comedian. Probably not a good one as an actor and even more probable that he should stayed on stage. Instead he is acting himself in a movie that we have seen in a thousand different versions.
This movie should be hilarious, but nothing is funny or even pulls up a smile out. Maniscalco sucks big time and he has all the luck in the world that De Niro is on the set or else it was truly a disaster.
It is talking about immigrants, but it is not convincing. Its writing is lazy and also the acting. Nothing works properly and the maximum reaction it will get is a small chuckle and that's that.
Leslie Bibb, Anders Holm, David Rasche and Kim Cattrall are annoying and over acting it as the probably should, but it is still revolting to see and though the movie is a little less than the traditional ninety minutes, it is still making you wish it will be over as soon as possible.
