avindugunasinghe - 15 April 2023 We antiheroes The survivor doesn't have the sparkling spectacles of liberation but it got a clear revelation of survivor's day-to-day trauma. What's remarkable about this story is how it translates to modern lives dwelling in the cutthroat society, the guilt, helplessness and questionable consciences when thrown together produces a truly dramatic visualization of a life lived in two extremes in two different eras. Hertzka's painful struggle to start his life from where it was uprooted and Schneider's sociopathic obsession to live on his desires is a clear provocative constrasts. The remarkable performances, flawless story and clever visual set-up put this movie higher up in ranks.
tdwillis-26273 - 3 August 2022 WOW First off, WOW, what a story!!!
I am a film buff. I notice the lighting, sound, and camera angels. Metaphores and symbolisim rarely goes un-noticed by me.... And this film (especially the black and white scenes BLEW ME AWAY!!
I did something I have never done.... I stopped the movie during my first watch and immediately rewatched several scenes.
BRILLIANT on many levels.
yweiss-50473 - 18 May 2022 Powerful Beyond Words Ben Foster deserves so much praise for this film!! His transformation and performance of Hertzka Haft will move you to tears. I can't believe how well this film highlights PTSD and portrayed gut wrenching guilt/loss through the eyes of a Holocaust survivor. The story was also perfectly balanced between past/present, engaging the audience without being confusing. Kudos for not Hollywoodizing it and instead choosing to authentically incorporate Yiddish (you rarely see that these days). Oh and the chilling Hans Zimmer score... speechless! Honestly, bravo to everyone involved in this project. Thank you for bringing Hertzka Haft's story to the cinema; everyone should know his name. We need more movies like this. 10/10. Its a must watch!
